Deus Ex- home version?

I've been wanting to play this game for some time, and it's seems the only way for me to play it right now would be to go for the ps2 version. I've read some reviews and they say the main fault in the game is the aiming system........has anyone here played it? Is it the type of aiming that can mastered with skill, or is just plain garbage? Are there any other faults in this version that I should know about?

If I don't get it now, I'll have to wait for about 8 months for my new PC=\. Would I be sacraficing alot buying this version?

Although I haven't played the console version, I would recommend you get it because it can easily be found for $15 new -- much better than having to wait 8 months and spend tons of dough to play the game, in my opinion. :)

I've heard the PS2 port is kinda ass (poor textures, framerate issues), but have never played it myself. I do see it new for very cheap ($15, like Celeryface said). Just buy it at EB so you can return it if it sucks.

The PS2 version has the usual PS2 port problems (framerate, loading, control), but the heart of the original PC game is still there. If you can look past the technical problems, it's still really good on its own.

The aiming system is like Splinter Cell's: your crosshair is big and inaccurate if you're running around, but precise when you're standing still. It's just being realistic. Deus Ex isn't an action FPS, it's all about stealth and clever thinking, so unless you plan to run around and shoot everything, the aiming system is fine.

I played the game and had no problems with it. The story is just so involving I didn't notice any control issues. The graphics aren't the best but who really cares.

On the other hand, there's something to be said for playing in 32-bit color with a smooth framerate and full screen anti-aliasing. It runs like a dream on new PCs, and if you can wait a while you'll have a far superior experience than on PS2.

8 months is pretty long, though.

The port is better than most, but thats not saying much.

The game has pretty low requirements though...if you've got a PC w/ anything over a 450 in it, just get a Voodoo2 card off of Pricewatch and you'll be all set :)

Thing is, the game hates older, non-3dfx cards. I'd suggest a GeForce 2 (not MX) at minimum. My friend had an MX and quite the choppy framerate Deus Ex back in 2001.

But Voodoo cards should do well in it, yes. They just suck for everything else. :P

My old Voodoo 3 3000 did some nice stuff in Unreal Tournament back in the day.

GeForce 2s (and up) do lay the smack down on those old Voodoos, though. ;)

Hmmm...OPM listed this as one of the most underrated games on PS2, along with Rez and Ico. I'd wanted to play it for a while, but maybe I'll wait until I've got a more current PC to play it. I just wish (legit) older PC games were easier to find.
