Not getting the optimal XBL experience? Read this...
Did some research and pulled this over at an Xbox discussion board... :)
Quote:
I have a serious problem that I believe is affecting several XBL gamers also.
My broadband speeds are 3000/384 and the Xbox speed test always gets around
2900/110. My download is right on the money everytime, but the Xbox Live
service is only seeing about a 1/3 of my upload speed. The funny thing is I
have called them off and on for over a month now. I have played the
ticket number/upgrade to someone smarter trick every since this issue
came up. They never have an answer to help.
The thing is when I call, they always say "well this is the first time I have
heard of this problem." Which I know is bull because I know of atleast 20-30
other people who have called them with the exact same problem! They
say "well there's nothing in our database about this problem."
That is a bunch of bullshit and they know it. I am starting to think that
there is a mass problem with bad ethernet cards in multiple Xbox's across
the country and they are shoving all these complaints under the carpet. I hate
to make that assumption, but come on MS, several people I know myself and
read about on these forums have called or emailed you with this problem.
Yet you still have no resolve for it and have never heard about it?
The last three calls I have made to Xbox Tech support has ended in
"well good luck to you and I hope you get it worked out." What the h*ll kind
of service is that? Basically I get 20 questions about my setup and after they
discover I know what I am talking about and I am not going through a
router etc. They have no answer! It is as if they can't push the problem
off on my ISP so they get frustrated with no clue what the h*ll the problem is.
So I post this to ask everyone to call in (last guy from Xbox tech support
I spoke to recommended me to have everyone that has problems call) if
you are having this problem and complain and try to get to the bottom of
it as well.
I just hate having 3000/384 bandwidth speed and because Xbox Live is
not optimizing my full speed, I can only host two players in a game of
Ghost Recon. What a d*mn joke, I should be able to host 4-6with no problem!
Thanks for taking the time to read and please reply if you have any
suggestions or perhaps you have suffered from this same problem and
have an answer etc.
Also, before anyone replies with "That test is not a speed test" or
"That test is not accurate"...Please save that for someone who doesn't
know any better! If you don't believe that test measures your upload
and download speed from the Xbox Live servers, feel free to do your
homework on the subject. Thanks to any and all who can shed some
light on this.
PS. To run this test, do the following:
1. Go into Xbox Live via the dashboard.
2. Click on Network Setup
3. Click on connect at the bottom.
4. After it has connected and the cursor jumps over to done, press
your Y button on your controller.
5. There will be a window that drops down revealing your UL (upload speed)
and DL (download speed). You also see your X, Y, and Z codes. These codes
are used by tech support when trying to solve connection problems etc. You
will also see P: 8/8 etc. This is the way to tell if you are experiencing Packet
loss. As long as these numbers are same amount/same amount you are fine.
If you start seeing 8/9 or 8/10 etc. you probably have a problem. The L is for
Latency and should stay below 100 everytime you run this test. If the
L: number is going way above 100 then you will probably experience some lag.
Basically the lower the Latency number the better. Thanks in advance to those
that reply with useful knowledge.
Hope that helps anyone that may have problems :)
