If it isn't a genre all to itself, it damn well should be. If you include the mini-games in the main games along with the side games like Hanagumi Columns 2, the series covers a lot of different game types by itself and that's one of the big things that makes it interesting for me.
Shooters all the way nowadays.

Personally I'd say fighting games--You left out the dance/rhythm and alse the party/boardgame/trivia genres.
EDIT: Also simulations.

Mature rated action games(Not many of 'em)...The kind with guns,swords, and /or things of mass destruction.
I'm going with shooter... such as Zanac Neo, ESP Ra.De., DDPDOJ, etc.
