IGN Intern wanted
For those of you that DON'T have a bone to pick with IGN, and you live in the Bay area...perhaps this will be of interest to you:
IGN is constantly looking for ways to improve its premium subscription content. We've been adding new features to IGN Insider frequently, and it has now become apparent that we could use some help. The more, the merrier, we say. So, if you're looking for ways to get your foot in the already crowded door of this industry, this is one way to do it.
Requirements
18+ years old
Live in the San Francisco Bay Area
Can commute to work
Available at least three days a week
Sensible writing skills -- decent grammar and respect for brevity
Basic HTML skills -- bold, italic, HREF, etc.
FTP experience -- upload and download files
Must be organized and able to keep a schedule
Willingness to work for free with reasonable perks
Appreciation for IGN's subscription effort and premium content
Available immediately
Undying love of games
If you boil down the requirements into a definition it sounds like slave labor, we know. However, we need the help and we know there's someone out there who's looking to enjoy the perks of the position. These perks include attending private industry events (often overflowing with food and drink), taking home free promotional goodies (posters, paperweights, keychains, T-shirts), and, most of all, gaining valuable resume-thickening experience in the industry. Several interns have been hired on as full-time editors at IGN -- this is an instance, not a standard, of course.
You will be required to work closely with IGN Insider editor-in-chief Fran Mirabella. Duties will be largely menial (e.g. processing high-resolution movies, formatting others' written content, and uploading files to FTP), but depending on your displayed skills there is the possibility you will have the opportunity to write your own content.
If you are interested in this position please send the following information to insider_mail@ign.com with the subject "Insider Intern Application":
Cover Letter: Why are you interested in this position and what of the criteria do you meet (age, location, skills)?
Feel free to plead you case, but remember to be concise. We hope to hear from you soon and to be announcing you as our newest member of IGN.

It's always got to be that living nowhere near the area that stops me.
-
Heh. I could've applied a long time ago, but didn't want to relocate. I am happy with what I am doing for them thus far though :)
-
Well, Las Vegas is sorta close to San Fran, but that three day a week, 9 hour commute would be hell :)
-
18 hours a day driving...for a shitty intern job. Not worth it unless it is your lifelong goal or something.
-
If I had a car, I would SO be there. Barting in and out of SF is never fun.
-
Sl1p~
Our current Video Editor Chris Roper did that every day for five months. He was an intern, did a great job, and we hired him.
:)

Once again, Makaze pops up on a IGN related subject.
You annoy me. :bang:
Maybe if I did want to condider it, I would be cool to work with for about 5 months, then I'll be looking forward to taking over.
Would be sweet if you could get that one chick who worked for sega, does anyone have her number? :p

There are tons of "chicks" that work there. Let's stay on topic.

I'm talking about the one with the blue hair.
