Do you like the new Capcom, or the old Capcom more?

I don't know, maybe it's me, but does anyone else feel like Capcom is practically a completely different company than they were just years ago? Before, you could expect new fighters every year, traditional Mega Mans and Breath of Fires, and even 2D shooters like Mars Matrix and Gunbird. Recently though, it seems they've turned all of their games into these mature action/horror-type games, like Devil May Cry, PN03, Chaos Legion, Killer 7, Clock Tower 3, Glass Rose, and of course Resident Evil and Dino Crisis.

And though they're still putting out Mega Man EXE's and X's, and porting old fighters every now and then, and I'm really, really looking forward to Viewtiful Joe and Gregory Horror Show, they just don't seem the same to me, though I'm not sure that is a good or bad thing. I'm sure Despair will have a field day with apathy for my opinion and smilie laden comments, but anyway, has anyone else observed this, and are you more or less happy with Capcom how they are now?

The "new" Capcom reminds me of the Capcom I saw during the NES days. Creating new and exciting franchises and memorable characters. I've got to say that I prefer the new Capcom to the old one of a few years ago.

To me, Capcom's just another Acclaim at this point. If you look at my games list, I'm sure you can tell that wasn't always my opinion.

I prefer the Capcom of the mid-80's up to the early 90's. I can understand fighting game fans might feel differently, though.

What new and exciting franchises and memorable characters did they do during the NES days? I mean, other than Mega Man, Ghosts and Goblins, and Bionic Commando, all I thought they did then were licenced games from cartoon shows like Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Chip n' Dale, TaleSpin, etc.

Once they started cranking out endless Street Fighter IIs, they started going down hill. Capcom is past its prime.

Old Capcom. 1987-2001 when they ended their arcade operations. First Capcom game I liked was Final Fight. Last one I liked was Aliens Vs Predator. I was never into any of their fighters or fighters of any kind as much as some people here. Their shooters were pretty much crap compared to others of that era. As for what they're doing now, meh.

Well, as Andy pointed out, I do love new Capcom. Action/Horror games are my favorite genre, so most of the recent Capcom output was indeed right up my alley. DMC is still one of the best games I played in recent years, and I've been RE fan since the day 1.

Sure I miss some of Capcom 2d fighting games, and I would love to see another Dark Stalkers game, but I have no problem with them concentrating primaraly on 3d gaming. Upcoming PS2 game, Chaos Legion, is on my most anticipated list of 2003, and it looks and(from impressions I read)plays great.

Still upcoming Viewtiful Joe might be a throw back to the fun beat-them-up games, Capcom was known for, and other then somewhat campy designs I'm interested in trying it out.

I prefer the "new Capcom". I never cared too much for their older games, strangely enough... but these days I find myself buying a lot more games with the Capcom logo. The thing is, their output is pretty diverse and I don't care for their most popular games like Resident Evil or Devil May Cry or th obligatory 2D fighters. However, I do like many relatively new games such as Breath of Fire V, Power Stone, Megaman Battle Network, Megaman Zero (much more than the older MM games), Maximo, Tech Romancer, Auto Modellista, Strider 2, Cannon Spike, and so on. My tasts are pretty atypical tho'....

Ha! I get the first reference to Steel Battalion! How can you dislike a company that loses its collective mind and develops such an absurd niche title? And then continues with the development of an online add-on? The "new" Capcom is doing just fine.
