Made it to the final boss today and was IMMEDIATELY blown out of the water.

That's after a couple hours of play and I was just pulling up at the fourth boss. I think Progear is tied with Tengai(Sengoku Blade) for my favorite horizontal shooters ever. A true work of art.

Yea, it's lovely. I'll be supergun-less for a short while so I can't play Progear, but I might as well submit this barely better score:

My screen started to flicker because of my funky power supply, so I lost a ship in the midst of all that nonsense. Coulda/shoulda had that last boss.

After I clear it on this difficulty, I'll have to play the real Japanese defaults.

Alrighty, the questions. Are you sure that the American default is extend every 1.5 mil? I'd have beat this thing by now! My blue board came fresh out of the box configured for 2/8 difficulty and extends at 3 and 4 mil. I'd love to go switch it up to every 1.5 and see how I do :cool:

And next we have the Active/Safe/Lovely thing. Whatup with that? I've sussed the acquisition of gems and rangs and thangs but I'm lost on the loveliness and such.

Lastly, where is this Progear all clear replay? I've been to the site and I bet I can figure out the signing up and the logging in but I didn't see anything mentioning Progear.

So it is 3 million / every 4 millon? Goddamn. I assumed it was every 1.5M considering the Shmups folk were using that setting. I was confused about the extend default but no one was answering my query over there... Thanks for bringing that up! I knew that was just a bit too generours even for us wimpy North Americans. Hmmm... I guess I'll have to junk my score.

I asked Seven Force the other day about those wacky Gunner Rankings. He isn't too sure about Active or Safe, but he seems to think Lovely has to do with your jewel count or something along those lines.

You'll need to register for the site first, however. [http://hk-stg.net/] Look in the upper left corner for the Anonymous link. Click your way through until you get to a sign up form. The first blank is your desired username and the next two are for your e-mail address. After a short while you should get an e-mail with a password.

I guess I need to edit those rules once again...

LOL, thanks Mr Stick. I'll be downloading that vid later today and working on the score later tonight. I don't know for sure about the default extends. All I can say for sure is that my US board came brand new from Capcom Coinop set at 3 and 4 million. It seems a fair default because otherwise you're getting a free airplane on every stage after the first.

Yea, if it came out of the box with those setting, they're definitely the defaults. You can always go to the options and set the game to the defaults with the press of a couple buttons...

Yea, with the extend at 1.5M, I hit the final boss with four extra planes in stock. I knew something had to be up. Ah well, now I really want to get back to the game and play the right way. Soon, soon...
