Adventure Games

Anecdotal bit:

I've been a Sam and Max fan forever. Around a year and a half ago my dad asks me if I'd ever heard of Sam and Max. I told him I was a big fan, and he said "I found out a childhood freind of mine made it". Steve Purcell's sister had contacted my dad to catch up, and she mentioned Steve had made this Sam and Max thing. My dad found it fitting because they all used to say Steve was going to be a famous cartoonist some day. they called him "Little Stevie Wonder" back then.

Anyway, I just got a kick out of it. Since then the rest of the family has become big fans as well.

That's really cool! Sam & Max are great! I'm looking forward to the sequel, as well as Full Throttle 2 (which will be on multiple platforms :D ).

I love the stuff you have posted in this thread, and I am the biggest adventure game fan out there.

I know the people that made The Space Bar. Wow, I had never even heard of anyone even HEARING about it before now. You sir, did your homework.

I remember reading a preview of that game in Next Generation... it definitely rings a bell. Do I get a prize?

The King's Quest series are my favorite PC games. 5 and 6 were absolutely amazing for their time, but they really lost the magic with 7 and 8.

Neo, you left out Kemco's somewhat-popular PC/NES quadrilogy:

Shadowgate, Deja Vu, Deja Vu II, and The Uninvited.

These games (along with Maniac Mansion and King's Quest V) are about the only exposure American console gamers got before the 32-bit era. I personally think all of them are good, although a tad frustrating. I'm completely stuck in Deja Vu II on GBC, and I'll probably never finish it.

Frog, that's so cool. It's a small world.

Good call Omega. Although Icom deserves the credit more than Kemco since they made the computer originals.

Master, do you know Steve Meretzky? He worked on The Space Bar, I believe. If so, thank him for A Mind Forever Voyaging.

King's Quest was waaaay overdone by the time they got to even 6. I mean the first 4 were all awesome in their own way by merging popular fairy tales and myth into the game... After that, they just slowly started running out of ideas though.

For me, the fondest memories in the series was King's Quest 3. Damn, making spells, the tension between exploring and hurrying home to do the chores before Mananan (or whatever the wizard's name was).... ahhhhh....

Although the one thing I HATED about all early Sierra games : the damned obligatory keyboard walking dexterity test. Y'know like where they force you to walk on these sections 2 pixels wide else get punished with quick and certain death. Blah. I remember saving like every 3 steps in Space Quest 2 when you had to do that to get past the alien plant roots. Dang.

Incidentally, why has no one made any mention of Legend games ? The Spellcasting series alone was a triumph in adventure gaming. The puzzles were just awesome as hell.
