i think anything that awards you or punishes you in anyway based on your race needs to be gotten ride of
if you want to do something like this for schools
like its been said base it on family income and such race shouldnt even be asked on applications to schools or financial aid
just because its reverse racism does not make it OK
theres better ways of doing things

Most states and schools overestimate how much middle class families will contribute. I know many people with this problem.
Oh, yeah, but the wealthy kids don't get in just because they're wealthy. My school's no Harvard, but I know a kid with about $5 or $6 million in his trust fund who works about as hard as anyone I know (who is a liberal arts major, heheh). The Engineers are crazy.
well even going by what people make is somewhat bad (well works for finacial aid but not school admissions)
ill use my niece and her friend as an example
my sister barely has 2 pennies to rub together and works full time and my brother inlaw works a full time job
they dont have much money and there are some parts of the town they live in that are pretty damn well to do but the majority of the town isnt
now my niece graduated from HS at either number 3rd or 4th in her class overall
her friend who happens to be a minority and whose family has much more money and went to the same school did far worse, but she didnt work her ass off the way my niece did
she graduated some where in the middle of the class
money doesnt always have to do with how well you do in school and to just assume that is some what silly
i really think things like GPA and such need to carry more weight
Stone: Your respect means nothing to me in light of some of your views. I stand by what I've said in this thread, and though it may be flawed Affirmative Action is the best thing we got going for ourselves. Perhaps after this case is won by AA proponents (and I have no doubt that it will be won despite the mindsets of those who sit on the Supreme Court,) it will undergo a major overhaul.
Well does it matter that her friend is a minority? Just goes to show that the well-off people never take advantage of their opportunities. That's why I hate frat guys and sorority girls. They just blow through college without trying and then get the VP job at their fathers firm. I don't think this was ever an issue. No money doesn't guarantee a successful college career, but it helps and provides better opportunity. I don't think GPA should carry more wait. I can't count how many people took blow off classes, volunteered once at their church and got full-ride. It's kind of like zero tolerance. They don't want to look into what actually went into their education. Did they do well cuz they took blow off classes? Did they do poorly cuz the school sucked and they had to share their book with 4 other students out of class of 70? I think more research should be done to look into the circumstances of each student.Quote:

oh yeah. I almost forgot....we live in a place where rich = evil, right? Heaven forbid someone who does have a rich mommy or daddy would want to learn and expand themselves...oh no, they just want to breeze through school and life, and live off the folks.

I'll admit it. I hate most frat guys. They waste all their advantages. If I had half of what they do, I'd be cooking with gas. I never said I didn't have my own prejudices. I'm not perfect and I never said I was. But at least I can point out my shortcomings and still support a cause I believe is right. Everytime I try to be a little more respectful, someone has to go and start with the snide comments. Can you possibly have a discussion without writing off everything someone else says?
