One of the best games on the snes didn't have it's own official thread, until now.
For it's time (and still pretty darn good) it had some of the most stunning graphics and effects ever, every boss is a treat but some of them stand out from the crowd of bosses I've faced over the years. The lava man(Wayler) and the walker (T-36 Towbar) in particular.

Good selection of weapons(every shooter should have it's own Round Vulcan, best weapon ever IMO) and the fact that you could survive a hit and only lose the currently equiped weapon was a fresh idea.

And mixing horizontal and vertical works splendid, no stage feels better or worse than the other(maybe I favoured the vertical ones cause of the Mode 7 effects (note I don't know if it's the right name for it)back in the days).
I've been searching for the soundtrack for some time now, it's hard to come by but some day..

I wasn't a fan of the pseudo silpheed perspective, but I did love the hell out of the game. In retrospect it's kinda easy for a shooter, but it loops so whatever. Fun times.

I actually just picked this game up a month ago. It's the best shump on the SNES, IMO.

Axelay was damn cool. Then Space Megaforce came out a month or two later and claimed the title of best SNES shooter.

Axelay is the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde of shooters. One half of it is excellent, the other sloppy and not very fun. I wish they went with a true 2D vert perpective for the vert levels instead of the gimmicky Mode 7.

(no offense to our own Mode7)

Box > game, but game = good. This comes from someone who owned and beat it oh so many years back (I still remember selling it and NCAA Basketball for money to play KI at the arcade. :p )

Axelay = one of my all-time favorite shooters.

That is all.

Stage 2's music, Colony, was one of my favorite game music tracks for many years.

It's a really good game, even if the 3D parts are a little weaker.
