What better way to change something than from the inside? They enter the matrix in order to free more minds, which is something that can only be done from within the system, because we all know what happens when some one is unplugged in the real world. Freeing minds is the main goal which drives everything they do. They fight agents and over come other obstacles because they are getting the way of accomplishing this goal.
