I could see them working, but not well. I assume that they've got a thin layer of copper inside them, which would amplify the signal from the antenna slightly. I'd say they work on the same principal of an antenna in a clock radio, but on a very miniaturized scale.

Just being a piece of copper doesnt create any amplification...
Anyways, being in this industry, Ill use my standard line here.
