A two-month free trial will also be widely available this fall.

The subscription rate means gamers who already have the service can extend their service for a full year at the same price of the service's launch. Renewals can take place online, or consumers can purchase subscription cards from a local retailer. The monthly rate is designed for those who want to test out Xbox Live, or for sports fans who only want to play during their favorite sports season. And you'll notice that the Voice Communicator headset will soon also be sold separately.

Details on pricing updates in other Xbox Live markets have yet to be announced. Also on the way are announcements concerning the ways in which Xbox Live will evolve later this year based on user feedback.

We will have much more on these and other Xbox matters from E3 next week, perhaps as soon as Monday night, when we will be attending Microsoft's Xbox press conference. Stay tuned.

$50 a year is such a nice price. I'm glad they kept the year long subscription. Now to buy more Online games!

Why'd the price of the Starter Kit go up. It was/is $49.99 right? What's with the $20 increase?

Man, $30 for the headset. Have they made them any more durable since the beta? Mine snapped right apart. :(

Because they dropped Whacked! from the XBL demo disc. They figure people will pay $20 to forget it existed. :D

Since the $50/yr is staying the same for existing accounts, I'll probably renew (assuming they don't start moving everything to Premium services). Once they add in the new lobbies and other services, it will definately be worth $4+change for a month.

i better want a game that has xbox live support soon, cause if not, i don't think im gonna pay $100 to get online with xbox down the line.
