Yea, you pretty much nailed the one reason I didn't like Fusion. Even going through it and replaying it this week, to get ready for Zero Mission, I remembered how much fun it was but how pissed I was that the computer walked me through everything.Quote:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Zero Mission (hell I'm going to buy it tommorrow), I was just wondering what happened over at Nintendo that they decided to make the series easier and more hand holding. Is this because it's on the GBA, for the younger gamers?
I'm with you on Fusion Roufuss... the linearity of it bothered me greatly. Nintendo was smart enough to realize that in remaking the original Metroid they'd be making a huge mistake if they tried to setup that linear narrative like they did for Fusion... so thankfully they didn't. The things I liked about Fusion were the new additions to the gameplay, such as grabbing on ledges and what not... there were some cool things to be found.
I'd like to know what Nintendo's thinking in terms of difficulty too... at least have Hard Mode available from the start I'd say. At least Prime seemed to be just right for difficulty on the first playthrough.
I really liked how the end of Zero Mission sets up Prime much better... that was a very nice touch.
This isn't the first time Nintendo has dumbed something down for the GBA, since I heard Super Mario World was made alot easier as well (meaning if you get hit with a cape or flower, you don't go back to small, you go back to big instead, giving you an extra hit).Quote:

I feel old for saying this, but back in the NES days, the games I played were tough as nails, and would kick the shit out of you repeatedly. It's hard these days finding a game that comes even close to that, so the satisfiscation for beating it, at least for me, isn't there.
Yes. None of them care about having fun with the games anymore. It's all about beating the game, nothing more. The little bastards use cheat coads like opium, too.Quote:

I'd also like to add that I thought the final boss was pretty anti-climactic.
I was planning on finishing the game so early, but then I just stumbled upon him, kicked his ass the first time, and left the planet. Kraid was way cooler looking than the final boss.
I had to stand in lava for about ten minutes to actually see the death animation.Quote:
