XBox disc read errors....help

My Xbox has been acting up lately for some reason. When I power a machine up, whether it be a DVD or a game, sometimes it says disc not recognized and tells me to replace (or clean it).

Also, when playing PSO, I hear the drive kind of wind down and start up again, I don't remember hearing that before. While playing PSO, I've had the game stall on me 3 times so far. They all stopped at the transition screen with the rings and refused to load further, then I lost all my unequipped weapons.

Anyone else have this problems or have recommendations?

sounds broken. the price should be down to $180 by now so not a big deal. god, i love competition!

The PSO problem is, well, a PSO problem. FSOD (frozen screen of death) has been plaguing the game and its players for some time now.

Doesn't FSOD actually freeze the whole screen? Because what I get is that screen with the rings, they're still moving, I can even still change the speed with the right stick, but it won't move any further.

We had the same problem last week. We rented Jedi Outcast and got the "disk error" so we took it back. What's disturbing though was, we checked every single disk they had and they all had circular scratches, not a single one worked. I haven't heard of the XBox scratching disks but thats the only way to get circular scratches. Is this an isolated problem or has anyone else noticed it?
