18 Illegal Aliens Die in Trailer

These senseless deaths could have been avoided if the U.S. would do what over 70% of Americans want, and that is put our own military on the border. Shocking concept eh? The U.S hasn't had one military personnel on the border since the 1950's.

It is estimated that there are between 9-13 million illegals in the U.S. (Not all from Latin countries, many are terrorits from the middle east) In the year 2000 border patrol apprehended 1.6 million illegals, and 980,000 in 2001.
My point is, if we had a heavily guarded border, tragedies like this could be avoided, make our country more secure from terrorists, and save our economy BILLIONS.

Illegals cost the U.S. 90 BILLION dollars in the year 1996, this from a Harvard Economist, the last year I could find figures for. Just look at California, where most Illegals go, it costs 5 Billion a year to educated children of Illegal Aliens, and 1 in 4 in CA jails is a Mexican National. Not to mention the free health care, and other social services they receive. This places a tremendous burden on the state and the tax payers. Our wonderful governor Gray Davis is tripling our vehicle licensing fees, because of our huge state deficit.

Yes Illegals help the economy by doing the shit jobs that most don't want to do, but studies show they give the majority of their earnings to their families back in Mexico, not doing our economy any good.

The simple reason we don't, straight from the White House, is for "Political Reasons" I.E. They don't want negative press and a resentment from current residents of Mexico living in the this country, and the Liberal Media who would scream racism if we were to even guard our own border.

I thought we were suppose to be a sovereign nation, but in the words of ex President Reagon, "A Nation who doesn't guard its own borders, isn't much of a Nation at all" Here, Here.

So uh what happened with the actual incident involving the trailer?

About a 100 of them were packed into an airtight trailer being smuggled into the states, and they were just left locked inside in Texas. When they opened the door (police) they bodies just fell out, and some went running. There were scratch marks from people trying to claw their way out. Pretty gruesome, I just read it in the paper.

How do you do an accurate study on illegal immigrants? Like, do you go door to door and ask "true or false - you are an illegal immigrant"? And then get an accountant to go through their finances? Somehow it doesn't add up that they send all their minimum wage money to the country where everything costs less.

why do so many jerks use the m. bison avatar? that was tyler's old one. Anyhow,this is more an advertizement for us having harsher penalties on smugglers than anything. they left 16 people die,and the rest probably would have died, lets do some nasty things to these guys.

Well, I was exaggerating there. My real point is, most people that spout right-wing garbage like this could care less that there's a steaming batch of Mexican casserole lying in some van in Texas. You'll note that his post was much more about keeping out immigrants than it was about the people that died...

But asides from that, what good would putting the military on the border do? I doubt that would do much more good than putting the police there, and it would cost fuckloads more cash which could be used on the economy. You're not going to keep illegal immigrants out totally unless you stop EVERY CAR that crosses the border at EVERY POINT of the border (to speak nothing of the number of people it would take to watch the border at all times!), and do a thorough search of every vehicle. That, of course, would then have the right-wingers bitching about loss of privacy.

(Besides, it's not like this story is all that uncommon -- in Texas you'll occasionally hear about some immigrants that died crossing the border, often in situations similar to this one.)

Being from Texas, I can't say I've got any love for border-jumpers either, but I'm not such a dumbfuck that I think that all the Arabs coming over here are terrorists or that boosting border security is magically going to solve our problems...
