That would be the "if" that broke the camel's back. VF is a game that has to be played constantly for like a year straight to have any meaningful ability at it. I eventually had to ask "is this really so much better than Soul Calibur that it's worth 10x the effort?" My answer was no, but ymmv.

And don't worry about the critics. You can have any opinion you want here, as long as you can back it up and it isn't just because its on your favourite/only system. But I'll warn you now, start telling me BMX XXX is a very good game, or that Turok: Evolution is better than Halo, and it's on.

Oh yeah - 2D fighters do not equal KI and MK, unless you think Criticom and Zero Divide are the bellweather by which 3D fighters are judged.

I remember that realization actually, the one where you play someone in virtua fighter (this one was 2) and get so totally and utterly schooled that you realize you haven't even scratched the surface of the game.

I must be honest though, since 2, I have not even thought about putting the time and effort into this game in a way that would make me superior.

Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast had me practicing close to everyday to overcome my faults in the game (level 8 difficulty, random charcater every day, see how many hits I could get in inside of a half-hour) and while it made me much more adept at the game, my victory was not a sure thing.

So in that sense, Virtua Fighter has always been worth the effort.

Lets face it, its nice to know that if you become a master at it, you are a master at it. Losing is your own damn fault in Virtua Fighter.

Its nice to know a game like that exists even if it doesn't grab my attention like it did years ago.

Anyhow, back to VF4 EVO. I'm glad to see some people here who really like the game.

I finally got my friend to check out VF4 EVO last night, and really get into it. Prior to this it was all SC2. I didn't like playing SC2 nearly as much as VF4 EVO, mainly because I felt like I was making myself win/lose in VF4 EVO, and there was to much chance in SC2. My friend didn't get this the first time he played EVO, and wanted to go back to SC2 immediately. Last night, he gave it another chance. After two hours flying by, he was a believer. It was a hell of a good time playing EVO with the old VF1 models.

Right now, I'm using Wolf quite a bit. He's a lot like Goh I find, except he's more offensive and has some great striking. He's just a total powerhouse. The VF4 stick is great too, I get out those giant swings with ease.

Goh is one of my favorite characters. I go for him when I want to play a little more defensive. I love his Tsukame grapple, its pure old school Judo.

Last but not least is Shun. When I don't want a grappler, he's the one to go to. He's got such deceptive moves, and I love his 10 drink counter.

I totally disagree, but VF4 is truly an amazing game. Not only because of its depth, but because of the dedication needed to become MODERATELY good. I wish AM2 would put the series online :(


Anywho, I believe Soul Calibur is still the best fighter/game ever, and will only be surpassed by Soul Calibur 2. The game is just flawless, and I disagree that it is a game of "chance."

I love the VF series to no end, and can't stand Soul Calibur. I loved Soul Blade, but the game seemed a bit too unbalanced for my tastes. I'll give SC 2 a shot to see if things improved in that regard.

I suggest you give SC2 a shot, but some people say that SC2 is even more broken than SC ( I didn't think SC was broken) because of Asta, Ivy, Taki, and Necrid.

I, for one, don't believe any character has an advantage over another.

Well, we've established VF 4: Evo is a good game, and there was an argument where there didn't need to be one. I wondered why a question about a release date reached 35 posts :confused:

Anyways, for any of you who played it at E3, or are just more in the know, WHEN IS THIS COMING TO THE US?!?!?

Ah yes...the optimism of someone who has never played Soul Calibur II. I wish I still had that before it crushed whatever tiny dreams I had.

Yes, a release date would be nice. I plan on entering the VF4Evo tourney at Evolution2K3 for shits and giggles. If I don't have VF4Evo by then...well everyone better just prepare for the mad crazy VF2 Lion skills. Whoooooo~

I've played it in the arcades, but not extensively.

I'll go with yes. After nationials I don't know anyone who actually still plays the game. Most people just got really disgusted with the types of BS that it's capable of. SCII for home consoles will probably have a fun single player, and it'll be fun for the casual figher. Get into serious compeition levels and it just turns into who can side step and buffer a command through the most.
