Anyone have one? There was one for sale I saw recently with the AC Adapter and carrying case for $40. I remember wanting one back in the day. What good games were there? The ones I thought I'd like to play are the Ninja Gaiden ones, and maybe APB, but I don't think I'd want to buy one if there isn't a good selection of fun games.
Thoughts?
I have one. I recommend Blue Lightning(After Burner-ish), Rampage, Electrocop(Action/Adventure), Gates of Zendocon(shooter), Turbo Sub(3d shooter), California Games, Pinball Jam, Shadow of the Beast. STUN Runner looks cool but I haven't played the Lynx version.
The amount of batteries it uses and the rate at which they're drained is amazing. Get an adapter.
APB is awesome.
The Atari Lynx may be one of the best systems ever made.
I have three Lynxes--one original model, and two of the later "Lynx II" model, along with 51 games. There were somewhere around 70-80 games that were commercially produced while it was being actively marketed; about 10-15 more homebrews have surfaced since then. Even with a library of less than 100 games, there's a great amount of variety, and the quality is generally very high. I'd say the ratio of good/bad games is among the best of any major video game system.
Ninja Gaiden was a pretty good conversion of the arcade game, and A.P.B. is great! S.T.U.N. Runner was also excellent, with all of the arcade game's tracks faithfully reproduced. Most of the arcade conversions are surprisingly close to the original; a few (such as Rampage and Xenophobe) even surpass the arcade versions with added features.
Also, the Lynx is great for multiplayer action. I've never played Lynx games with more than two players, but some games can handle as many as 16 players. There aren't many games that go above four players (perhaps 4-5 games that support six or more players), but there's probably close to 20 games that have four-player support.
One game: S.T.U.N Runner
Ever since I finally got one I've disliked the Lynx. The games are usually framey and slow, and control inputs aren't good, and most of the 20+ games I have are weak. (Can't say I liked its rendition of S.T.U.N. Runner.)
I'm still seeking a few of the more praised games though, like Battlewheels. I'm expecting more disappointment.

The only game I want for mine is Toki. The arcade game was great and the Genesis version was butchered. I remember reading that the Lynx one was arcade perfect or damn near it.
I'll give another "Yay" vote for the Lynx. I had fun with Ninja Gaiden, RoadBlasters, Rampart, Viking Child, Cyberball, European Soccer Challenge, BattleWheels, Lemmings, etc. Great system, considering it was released in 1989.
What games do you have for the Lynx? If you got one of those "Lynx with 10 games" bundle deals that are often sold on eBay and online video game retailers, then I'd guess that you got mostly bottom of the barrel games. OTOH, many of those deals also include a few incredible games like Klax and Rampart, which might justify the whole bundle right there. :)Quote:

What types of games do you like? I can probably rattle off some of the better Lynx games if you name some of your favorite genres.
BattleWheels is a gem of a handheld game. It's a car combat game where you equip a car with weapons, then drive around in various arenas and blast the other cars. If this sounds an awful lot like Twisted Metal, then you'd be right. What's even more impressive is that this game supports up to six simultaneous players, and was released a full two years before the original Twisted Metal!
