Your top five formats of all time

1. Dreamcast - Best system for fighters by far. Pisses on the Neo Geo from a considerable height. Shenmue, Sakura Taisen, Jet Set Radio, Yu Suzuki Gameworks, Daytona 2001, Ikaruga, Bangaioh... love it.

2. Playstation 2 - The second best system for fighting games and of course the awesome PSone shooter libary. Ridge Racer V, VF4 Evolution, Psyvariar and Rez are brilliant. A seemingly unlimited supply of RPGs is also on offer.

3. Mega Drive - Because of Ristar, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Sonic and Thunder Force IV.

4. Sega Saturn - Lots of good shooters but for me NiGHTS, Burning Rangers, Shining Force 3, Sega Rally and Dragon Force were the stand outs.

5. Super Famicom - For all those fantastic Nintendo games.

1.) Dreamcast - As many new systems as I get, and as many new games for them, I always go back to the DC. It really is unbeatable. MvC2, CvS, CvS2, Zero Gunner, Mars Matrix, Cool Cool Toon, etc. This limited alotment of games is enought to keep me coming back, but to my utter excitement, there are many more.

2.) PS2 - There's really nothing for me to say that wouldn't be considered obvious. PS2 and PSX games, most third party support, great exclusives, etc.

3.) Saturn - An amazing platform with some of the most inventive, original, and fun games around. There's always a reason to play your Saturn, whether it be NiGHTS, Burning Rangers, or any number of shooters.

4.) XBOX - I love it. It's been (and continues to be) innundated with FPS games, but everything in between is too good to pass up. And the FPS are alright too. :)

5.) Genesis - I love my Geny like a brother.

1.Genesis/Sega Cd-this was a close call but the Sega Cd gives it the edge.
2.NES-Sooooo many classics!
3.Playstation 2-to play Psone games.
4.SNES-The best RPGs the world has ever known.
5.Saturn-the most underrated system.

1- Saturn: Lots of quality games in the lineup. No need to go into detail here. :)

2- Taito F3: I'll count the cart games (Darius Gaiden, Pop'N Pop, Elevator Action II) as well as the regular JAMMA board ones (Grid Seeker, RayForce).

3- PS2: The import PS2 market is churning out some nice titles lately, and the partial backward compatibility with PS1 games is a bonus. There's XII Stag, DDPDOJ, Time Crisis II, and eventually Time Crisis 3 in the lineup.

4- Dreamcast: Psychic Force 2012, Street Fighter III and other Capcom games, Ferrari F355.

5- Mega Drive: MUSHA, Gaiares (it was to 1991 what the PS2's Gradius V is to 2003 in terms of jawfloor power... this game really showed its 8 Meg in graphics & sound, and featured a cool weapon learning mechanic), Thunder Force, & Streets of Rage series.

1. Neo Geo.... Look at my sig, man I love all those games! :) The fact that it is still alive and well after 13+ years, is amazing, and competitive even in the arcades. So much innovation too, with portable memory card, etc.

2. Sega Saturn/STV... Allow easy arcade ports to home, like Radiant Silvergun, etc

3. NES (no words needed)

4. Genesis (look at NES)

1. Playstation 2 - The main reason I'm placing this first is the backwards compatibility with the PS1 which has an overwhelming amount of good games.

2. Genesis/Sega CD - Still the best overall format for 2d action games. It also covers other categories nicely.

3. SNES - Many of the greatest games ever made are on SNES. The other Nintendo systems can't compare to it.

4. Dreamcast - It's like the Master System of the 21st century: lots of excellent, original, and underappreciated Sega stuff.

5. Don't make me choose between the Duo, Saturn and Amiga. The GBA is becoming increasingly impressive as well.


I love 8-bit machines like the NES, SMS, and C64 but they have been surpassed by similar yet more powerful machines.

I left out arcade boards since they generally don't have the quantity or variety of home systems but System 16 and CPS1 have some of my favorite games.

I love early '80's games but since most of the best ones were arcade games, no home systems made my list.

I understand why the PC couldn't be included but I must add that Windows-era PCs especially have kicked major ass and have had some of the best games ever. There were a few years (1999,2000) where the PC was my favorite format. I wish more console gamers would appreciate it.

Me too, brother.

1, Dreamcast - Most of my favourite games are DC games.
2, Genesis/Sega CD/Power Base - Massive number of quality games between these 3 formats.
3, Saturn - Not quite as many titles as PSX/PS2, but the best games shine brighter for me...
4, PS2/PSX - Eventually the sheer number of games may see it eclipse Saturn for #3.
5, GBA - A surprising number of top notch games.

i said who gives a fuck and included PC anyway but i guess you all missed that :P
