1) Dreamcast
Highest number of quality titles. Soul Calibur and Shenmue alone would make this system the best.
2) NES
Christ, what is there like 3000 titles for this system?
3) Genesis
Was the start of gaming as not just entertianment, but a creative outlet.
4) C64
The system I cut my teeth on, so its got a soft spot with me.
5) Saturn.
Waaaaaay to much quality, waaaaaaay to understood by the masses.
This isn't an issue of opinion. There is no objective way to have the Xbox or GC higher than, say, the PS2. The PS2, when the PS1 library is included, is strong in every single genre. If you objectively look at its list of titles, you can't possibly argue that the Xbox or GC is the better system. I understand someone picking the Saturn over the PS if they are a big Capcom fighting fan or the Neo over it if they are a big fan of arcade-style games, but that's it. The Xbox and GC are not strong enough anywhere to warrant support in an all-time list like that. If you think that's "elitist," fine. It wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last that speaking the truth got me that label.Quote:

Your 'truth' is your opinion. You say the GC and Xbox's libraries are no where near that of the PS1 - PS2's. That's opinion. Some people may not like the PS1's library, or the PS2's and think they are weak or something like that.

This rule seems made up specifically to give points to the GC and not XBox.....if you can consider peripherals such as the GBA player, why not include everyting else, like emulation? If so then XBox wins since it can play NES+Genesis+SNES+SMS games as well....Quote:

No. People have different tastes. They may like completely different types of games. My point is that the PS2/PS1 is strong in every type of game. There is no gamer who cannot find a fair number of games that they like on there, if they look at it objectively. There is not a single genre where the GC and/or Xbox is stronger than the PS2, with the possible exception of the racing lineup on the Xbox.Quote:

If you disagree, Andrew, make a case that the GC or Xbox has a better lineup than the PS2. I want specific examples, because I submit that they do not exist.
Maybe some people are writing off the PS1 library because they can't stand the bad graphics? (compared to the newer 3D consoles)
It makes me sad that nobody listed a NEC console in their top five. I'd say with the Duo's expansive library it's a no brainer, oh well.

I did sort of list the Duo in the fifth slot. ;) I love the machine.
1. NES - My favorite system ever, the games for which often filled me with wonderment and joy. I'm surprised many here choose 16-bit systems over it.
2. PSX - I'm not in love with the platform, but the games speak for themselves.
3. Genesis / SNES - Each is spiff. I'm just a bit biased towards Genesis b/c of my love of the underdog.
4-XX - I like every other reasonably good system (ie, not Jag or 3DO) fairly evenly.
Just about everything the NES(and SMS) did, the 16-bitters did better, which is why so many of us rank them higher.
