Publicly, they are saying that they have no plans to do online games on the GameCube. If they are privately preparing all these great online games as we speak, then that's great, and I'm happy. But why hide it? More importantly, why have they downplayed it in the face of fans screaming for them to implement it? Why not just make a statement at E3 saying, "We've heard all our fans clamoring for us to include online play, and here it is--Mario Kart Double Dash with ONLINE PLAY!!!" No, instead they're saying that "the time isn't right."
E3 is the biggest worldwide public stage for this stuff, and they blew off the whole concept in front of the world. I'd love to be proven wrong, but you aren't doing much to convince me with just some "two-and-two" speculation and wishful thinking. A press release from Nintendo, on the other hand, might work. :)
