Anyone here play Mage Knight? If so, are any of you mage knight players intrested in Hero Clix? I just found out about both Mage Knight and Hero Clix recently. Sounds quite fun. I work at a store that sells Mage KNight, and I got a Spider Man Hero Clix as a free promotional. I was just curious as to how people felt about MK in genral, cause now im wanting to get into it. Seems like it could be a blast to play.

For those who aren't familiar, there are several Clix games, the most prominent being Marvel Hero Clix, DC Hero Clix and Mage Knight. It's a table top strategy game using miniatures, but the "clix" part of the game refers to the base on the figure.

SPEED/MOVE
The number next to the boot or wing symbol is a character’s movement/speed number. This is the number of squares the character can move when they are given a movement action.
ATTACK
The fist icon is attack. This number is added to the roll of 2 dice to determine if an attack hits.
DEFENSE
The shield is defense. It represents how hard it is to hurt the character. An attack must be equal to or higher than this number to hurt the character.
DAMAGE
The blast icon is damage. This is the number of clicks of damage you do to a target when you hit with any type of attack.
RANGE
The lightning bolt or bolts are range. This is the number of squares you can shoot. If the value is zero, you have to be next to a target to hit them. If there are two or more lightning bolts, you can hit that many targets with a single attack.
Each time you're engaged in battle and take damage, you turn the dial in your base however many times your Damage counter tells you to, unless you've got a Super that negates a click for any reason.
This is a really deep game, surprisingly. It's played on maps that are about 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 feet broken into grids 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 inch squares. The maps feature different types of terrain and buildings, etc. on a 2d playing field.
There's a shit ton of characters you buy in booster packs of four. You never know what you're going to get. You put together a team at the beginning of the game, place your figures and then take turns doint your moves and stuff.

It can be a bit complicated, but as long as you keep the rule book and supers list by you while you play through a couple of rounds, you start to get used to everything you can do.

We started by assembling teams that equaled 200 pts or less. Each character has a point value, so when you pick your team you'd make sure it didn't exceed 200 points when all added together. Then you get 1 action per 100 points you have on your team, so for a 200 point team, on your turn you'd get two actions, an "action" being moving, attacking, or clearing a player up to be able to act on the next turn. When you first start playing you'd probably not have a lot of figures to choose from, but as you collect more, your able to build larger teams or more powerful teams.

Certain characters can fly obviously, so they've got special movement abilities, such as not being hindered by terrain and the ability to "pick up" friendly players and take them with them when they move. There are two types of flying you can use for these characters, hovering and soaring, based on how you position the flying meter on the side of the pedestal. All flying characters are on pedestals like that.
I'd like to get the DC clix too. I don't think you can mix and match tho, and if you did you'd have to have the rule book and supers list for both games to play. DC's got some cool characters tho!

That Sinestro, btw, stands about 6 inches tall. The average size for the figures is about 2 inches or under.
Hero Clix looks really fun, but I've never had the money to get into it. Sigh. I'd like to, someday. Maybe when I get a new job.
The reason I'm apprehensive is... well, I used to play Magic: The Gathering. That should explain a lot right there. If I sold my cards and got back even half of what I spent on that game, I'd be pleased.
Understood. The collectability of the game could cost a lot of money. But lessee, the starter pack is I think $30 and comes with 8 figures while the booster packs are about $7 and have 4 figures in them. I've bought 4 booster packs and have gotten only 2 repeat figures so far. But I've gotten 2 really nice rare figures as well, each of which sell for $20 loose. Of the rest I have, I've only gotten 2 figures that are of the generic "henchman" type.Quote:

I'm not going to be like friends I know who actually compete in tournaments, so my collection doesn't particulary have to be pristine. It's just for personal fun with my son and between me and my friends. The game itself is just so cool and deep that acquiring things for it right now is a really fun thing. I haven't gotten a whole lot yet, but what I have gotten has been surprisingly cool. Other than the two rarest figures I got, I've gotten plenty of others that plain just rock.
I only mess around with Mage Knight Dungeon and to a lesser extent the original game. My friend bought one booster for the Marvel series and got the grey Hulk which is just insane. Tried playing the 3D dungeon tileset and it works remarkabley well. The traps aren't bad either. I'm not sure when next month Wizkids is going to upgrade to 2nd edition rules. I know it's soon and fortunately all the old figures will be compatible w/ the new rules.
I used to play Mage Knight with Game Cynic and Tonydoo. Even though we didn't play alot, I really enjoyed it. Never got into any physical card games (CFC and Triple Triad, owned me for a while though), but Mage Knight was easy to get into, and played alot like a classic stategy board game.
I bought a few Marvel Clix, read through the rules, but just like MK Dungeon, I couldn't get into it because of the playing board restriction.
