Silent Hill Moments

Silent Hill 2 didn't scare me as much as the original.

Scare is the wrong word though, I should say terrify.

Then the other day I was playing, and in the scene when you hear the guy scream in the apartment complex on the second floor, then make your way to the apartment and find him smashed into the TV. I'm sure most of you already know this, but if you stop and walk up to the bars blocking the hallway before you go in, right after the scene, Pyramid head is standing there staring at you.

That scared the shit out of me.

I've played the game all the way through five times, and that was the first time I'd ever seen that.

Anyone else want to chime in here?

Probably in SH1, when you enter the school yard in that other realm and the song for all starts, thought I was gonna have to fight a boss or something and ran back inside :sweat:

I thought the guy by the tv had been shot in the head, thats James if I'm not mistaken.

Nope someone said that at one point, but the developer said in an interview that it was just them being lazy and using the same character model.

I think he's retarded personally cause if he hadn't said that he would come off as brilliant, y'know forshadowing and all.

Hm I'll have to check out the dvd just to be sure but you're probably right.

In Silent Hill 1 where your daughter calls on the phone at the mall. The voice sounds like it's in so much pain, "Daddy? Daddy? Where are you?" Then the TV's all start flashing the symbols at you. It just felt fucking evil...

I dunno, most of SH2 scared the living shit out of me, although neither game scared me as badly as Fatal Frame. :)

I still haven't touched SH2, even though I've owned it for a while now. And I'll never understand why people think SH1 was scary. Now Fatal Frame, wow, this is how you make a scary video game.

I'll not bother with spoiler tags since this thread is all about them.

Silent Hill 1:

The first time you hit night and hear that industrial rock/drums as the BGM. Shit, I wanted it to turn day ASAP.

That part where you get the call from Cheryl is excellent too. "Daddy...where are you?"

The part in the morgue in the hospital where you hear the little door rattling. You tensely open it, and nothing happens. Relieved, you turn around, and that's when a corpse falls out of a closet, sending you 10 feet into the air.

When Lisa Garland's face starts bleeding all over the place.

Silent Hill 2 didn't have many scary moments IMO. I liked the monologue by Mary in the long hallway at the end, that was kinda touching. And the Mary bed boss was kinda gruesome.

Well, Before Fatal Frame, Silent Hill was the scarriest game I've ever played. The beginning, where you walk through dark hallway, with sirens, shaking camera and then just DIE was quite terrifying. All the encounters at Dark School. Brrr ! SH2 felt more melodramatic(not to say it was bad, not at all), and while it had plenty of creepy moments, it wasnt on the same level as original.

But FF beat them both, with its freaky ghosts and visions.

The school was what made me lose it though.


I have never played fatal frame, but I dig silent hill for the pure atmosphere. I know if the right person (by this I mean either me or Shidoshi) made a movie out of this material, it would probably be the most disturbing movie ever, and thats saying a lot about how far videogames have come.

Either way these are all good moments.

Anyone ever read the insanely detailed plot synopsis on Gamefaqs?
