Actually, as I understand it (and anybody who can show me something that proves me wrong please do so), in Texas if someone breaks into your house, you are legally allowed to use deadly force. It doesn't matter if said person is threatening you or not. *shrug* Personally, I'd end the person before they knew I was there simply because I can't guarantee they won't harm me. They've already attacked me per se by breaking into my home; I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are not going to just stop there. In for a penny, in for a pound.
