Armored Core-Silent Line
Anyone played Silent Line yet? I didn't bother to get the JP version, since it will be out in US soon enough. The Armored Core series is one of the (very) few modern series I actually like, and Silent Line looks like it may have some features that will be cool. One is the inclusion of solid (non-energy) shields for the left arm. I think they should have been included from way back. Also more left arm weapons is definatley a good thing. Some new stuff I am not really interested in however, such as the 1st-Person view, now selectable instead of requiring a code. Anyone have more thoughts on AC in general or Silent Line in particular?

My only experience with Armored Core is playing the original on a demo disc and loving it. For some reason though I just have never gotten around to actually buying any of the games... any advice on where to start with the series? Now that I have the summer I think I will finally pick one up.

Haven't played the last two AC games, but I heart the series.

I played the first one on PS, I loved being able to build my mech but the control was absolute shit, and the last level was pretty much impossible. You had to climb up what felt like hundreds of floating platforms that moved in all directions that had turrets on them, and if you got hit while jumping or missed a platform you were pretty much guaranteed to fall all the way to the bottom. Hours later, when I finally got to the top and had about 1/8th of my life remaining I was subjected to an impossible boss that killed me in about 2 seconds. Just thinking about it makes me pissed off.
Overall, though, I liked the first game, but all the sequels and updates seemed so damn similar I that they all felt like the same game. I tried getting into AC2 and it felt like the exact same game with better graphics.

If you liked AC3, you'll love the expansion Silent Line. It's a solid improvement over 3... or at least so says everyone who has played it. I'd buy it myself, but I have too many games on the way as is.
Note you don't need AC3 to play Silent Line, but you probably should since the missions will be tough without importing a mecha from AC3.
