Dino Crisis 3 *impressions!*
Well, my Dino Crisis Xbox came in the mail yesterday.
I only had time for a quick 20 minutes with the game (Atlas is trying to sleep). I can't give you too much on the graphics since I was playing it on her TV and I'm spoiled rotten on my RGB setup. They look nice enough, but once I get it over to my place I'll give a better rundown of the whole thing.
So the deal with it is: You're trapped on a ghostship in the middle of space after it blew up your original ship. You control a guy, with a girl following you around for the first 5 minutes, until you're *gasp* seperated! The deal with the jetpacks works really well. The R trigger lets you scoot around really fast compared to your walking. I haven't run into any function for the L trigger yet. Black and white operate menus, and (I forget which is which on the pad) the right-side face button controls jumping. When you jump, your jetpack fires you pretty damn high in the air, but it's sensitive to when you release so you don't just go slamming into the ceiling. After jumping, you can hold down the R trigger to do a sort of glide-your-way-around-while-you-slowly-fall thing. The left button on the face is for shooting. So far I've got the standard machine gun and a WASP that fires some missiles. The machine gun can be charged and then aimed in any direction on the X-Y-Z axis (Once charged you can't move till you fire). The bottom button on the face is the 'action' button.
The big question with these: How's the camera?
Well, it's a bit obtrusive in some places, but works well enough that you don't want to scream curses at Capcom. It's your average 3-D camera - A few bugs, but you'll live fine...
So far the game has been quite fun, as it's kind of a jet around like mad, while avoiding mutant velociraptors, flying into the air above them, and raining down hell-fir from your machine gun. The game automaticaly targets the nearest enemy, so even if they're off screen you'll still be hitting it. It plays very fast when you're in the middle combat, and there's an amount of skill in avoiding attacks by boosting around and jumping at the proper times.
All the voice acting is in English with Japanese subtitles (a la Viewtiful Joe); a very welcome addition for me.
Having not gotten too far into it I can say that what I've played up till now has been a blast!
I'm predicting sleeper-hit status in the states.
