Ugh, how could I forget about region lockout. That and staggered release dates. I think it's time companies wise up and release their games in all intended territories simultaneously. No more of the preference shit. Oh and give us some fucking cool boxsets more often.

I hate most types of unlockables. Sure it artificially extends the replay of the single player modes, but if the game has multi-player it doesn't need it. I don't mind unlocking 1 or 2 charcater or two tracks/stages. I would probably be pleasantly surprised. I hate it when I have to play the single player mode for hours or days just to get everything I want in the vs. modes though. When all I really want to do is start playing the vs. modes with everything available. I know I'm alone on this one though.
Played it, enjoyed it and finished it. But I don't see what emotion has to do with Shenmue 2. Atmosphere, yes, but that's not quite the same. The burden of proof is with you. If you want to bother, that is, because personally I'm beginning to regret hogging the thread.Quote:

I have been both scared and excited when playing a game. Those are both valid emotions that are a deliberate goal established by the publisher. Both of these emotions are a constant in today's gaming. Feeling happy, sad or sorry about characters on the other hand are left up to the individual playing but I have never felt such emotions. Honestly I don't feel games have risen to that level with regards to character development just yet but maybe someday.

I'm thinking particularly of the conversations you have with Shenhua on the way to her village at the end of the game. You're directing the conversation, so you're still playing, but the aim is obviously for Ryo (you) to get to know her, and in doing so form an emotional attachment. That's one example of non-cutscene emotional involvement in a game.
On the other hand, I was banned from all of Half-Life until December 14th because Valve Anti-Cheat has the odd false-positive here and there. Granted, I just went out and picked up an HL GOTY edition for $20 and it hasn't happened again, but that still bugs me.Quote:

I don't expect a police state with a 1:1 mod to player ratio, but the fact that droppers get away with no punishment whatsoever in CvS2 and the fact that nobody does anything about dupers and haXX0rz in most online games sucks. It's nothing more than a sign that publishers think it doesn't matter and they can get away with just collecting subsciption fees, but it really does ruin the experience unless you're always playing with friends, and chases away people who have better things to do than waste their time with that garbage.
Not something that I'd call common, but eh.
