Also, I think the old R-Types are pretty good about giving you the necessary speed-ups right away -- not nearly as annoying as the Gradius games.

So, anyone find a good (relatively) safe spot near the top or bottom of the screen for the stage 5 boss's reflection lasers? I'm wondering if there is one. Otherwise, my experience fighting it is like Korly's.

I got through it a couple of times. For the first barrage, I went to the bottom middle - there's just enough space as a beam crosses over your ship. Right after that, I moved upwards and to the left about a ship-length each direction and was right in the middle of a criss-cross pattern. I haven't been 100% successful though - it seems if I'm off by one pixel, I'm dead. I also took my speed down to 3 to help with precision, as I sometimes go a little bit too far on 4.

I stole some curtains from a hotel, and thumbtacked them over the window in my computer room.

The only problem is they're covered with big ugly flowers... but they block the light like a motherfucker.

You could also put black contact paper up over your window... and then sit around burning incense, and listening to the Cure.

I'm pretty sure Cybercore did that on the TG-16 waaaaaay before Delta.

Of course. Thunder Force III had it too. I'm just talkin' R-Types.

You guys know to practice a level in Score Attack, you don't have to beat it, just get to it? So if you're having trouble on a level or a boss you can't beat it, just practice it in Score Attack (and it also counts towards getting new ships as well)

When it shoots the diagonal lasers, I can NOT fucking dodge it. My only chance on that boss it to hope it does the gravity attack first, then hit it with my dose attack and my lv.4 charge attack with my R-9 Wave Master. If I don't then kill it before it gets to the lazers, I don't kill it.

It seems to go into the gravity attack more often if you hit it with a charged up shot & deploy your force bit on it right when you start on it. always shoot your force onto its weak spot right away, because the it won't block any of the bosse's attacks so it might as well be doing damage for you. If it does go into the reflecting lazer bit, stay in the middle of the screen even with the bosses weak point & go as far to the left side of the screen as you can. The first wave of reflections will miss you totally. The next pattern requires you to move forward about one ship length, stay there & just hold rapid fire since you are still even with the weak spot & your force is grinding away on him. the next pattern will force you to move forward even more & you will end up right next to the core. Keep shooting and by that time the boss should take enough damage to go into its second phase. The bosses' main shell will close up & will do wierd reflecting stuff, but you should still be doing damage to the boss since your force should be inside the bosses' shell pressed up against the core. It should eat it pretty soon after this.

For this boss I would reccommend the Cyber Nova, POW armor 1 or 2 or the Eclipse. The Cyber & POW's have an insanely damaging spin fire attack on their deployed Force bits & the Tentacle bit's have that seeking ability, either of these will help take out the boss quicker

As for the 6th boss, just get on the left side between the two snake holes. Get really close to the wall, you will have to feel out how far you can go back without dying. Sit there & fire you gun & the boss will die. You don't EVER have to move or dodge anything. I can't believe there is such an obvious blindspot in the second to last boss of this hard ass game.

I thought it was great that they essentially carried over the default control scheme from R-Type Delta for people who were familiar with that game. It's not like the controls are overly complex or difficult to learn, but for those who played Delta, it's especially easy to jump right into R-Type Final.

Even though I thought it wasn't that great I decided to pick it up anyway to support the shooter cause. It'll provide a good distraction now and then.

In any case, I'm probably just blind like a monkey with its eyes gouged out but where do the ship-unlocking passwords get put in?
