...er, anyway, I don't know that the Guwange comparisons seem warranted, but the game looks pretty snappy. Someone get these guys a North American arcade distributor.

The game looks awesome and I love ESP Ra.de, but I just can't get excited because I know the odds of me playing the game are...never (hope I'm proven wrong)

I guess I'll just go to my local arcade and play Dragons Lair! "WHERE YOU CONTROL THE ADVENTURE!" instead and pretend I'm playing it.

There isn't another company that makes as many shooters as cave, with as diverse scoring systems and what not. Just look at dodonpachi, guwange, esprade, and progear- I don't see why cookies and their cutting are mentioned at all.

A year ago the ps DDP wasn't nearly as expensive as it is now. I think all the talk at shmups.com and other forums about the advantages of the ps version jacked up the price.

No it isn't. I already stated my expectations previously in the thread. I don't need dozens of shooters like some, just a select few that I enjoy. If the sequels offer nothing new (or aren't as enjoyable as the prequels) then it's no great loss to me as I have the previous ones to enjoy. That way I have a diverse range of shooters in all aspects (including scoring).

This is my approach, yours is different. End of story.

Those are my personal favorites. I adore the look of Guange, probobly the best, most intreging collection of sprites I have ever seen. Astoundingly beautiful game. ESP just hits me as the most fun to play, I dont even understand the scoring system so I just blast shit and dodge bullets. After so much Ikaruga you need a game like that.

On the flip, I cant seem to get into Dangun Feveron. It's awesome, I know, but I seem to be a panzy and cant handle it's speed. Though I would love a soundtrack to this one. Disco beats in a shooter? Genius.

I miss Joker Jun, but the ex-Taito guy that did the art (Psychic Force's Kado Tsukasa) isn't bad either.

Well, I'm hoping that Shikigami 2 is Alfa System's "DoDonpachi." I don't expect it to be nearly as good as that beast of a game, but the first Shikigami is strong enough that I'm really looking forward to seeing how the game's evolved.

As for Cave's catalog, from what I play tested on emulators ESP Ra. De. is my most wanted port. It would be absolutely amazing if it and the upcoming sequel hit the PS2.

I didn't particularly like Dangun Feveron, and I prefer the slightly more straightforward approach of ESP vs. Guwange. Although the concept of freezing/holding bullets is fascinating...I think Guwange is a game I'll need to devote quite a bit of time to in order to appreciate fully.

You almost got me there, but again it's all about the mechanics of the game are what makes it excellent, the Dark/Light(Black/White) and scoring system makes it fun despite the lack of any sort of power-up system.
