Man you must hate the cows ;p I think that a field is a good portrayal of calmness, and they put cows on it. Then again, I haven't played much of the game, so I don't know if cows are a huge motif. I'm thinking not.

When you start a level navigating the level is actually difficult, as the majority of the objects in the level you will just bounce right off of. As you play on, those obscatles are removed (since you can just pick them up) and the play area opens up. The levels have a really nice sense of progression to them -- you navigate around the maze of a mess, you get bigger, pick up the maze, and move on to the next mess. The scaling is quite a neat effect actually (expecially on the last level, where you start with a ball the size of a kid and end up with something a kilometer in diameter.)Quote:

Of special note is that this game is the first game that I can remember that my mother enjoys playing since Dr. Mario. That means something to me... I am just not quite sure what.
A note on the cover: the box art, if nothing else, is representative of the art style of the game. If you are worried about grabbing a fruity-looking box in the store, you probably will not play this game lest your friends catch you playing this fruity-looking game. I think the box art serves to get attention here -- it sure will look distinct on the shelf, if nothing else.

The Katamari Damashi cover works because it's clean, bright, and things look normal at first glance but there's that big, intriguing ball of stuff in the background. It's just odd enough that, once the bright colors on the shelf grab your eyes, you might pick it up and look closer. If it has a good back cover, which is something that very few games lately have, then just maybe sheer curiosity about something new, coupled with it being cheap, will make a sale.
The gameplay is roll around, collect stuff. You can collect small stuff at first, but as the ball grows bigger you can put larger and larger things on to it. Make a predetermined size by the time the time limit ends and you go to the next stage. Control is done using both analog stick, like steering a tank.
And that's pretty much it. Go from level to level, eventually being able to create truly huge balls of stuff. Like a lot of games describing it makes it sound kind of dull (fly left to right, shoot stuff = Gradius, in addition to a few thousand others) but it works well. I'm really looking forward to playing this.
Diffx- We know you don't like it, why are you here? Your trolling is wasting our time. I played the demo at E3 extensively and liked it. Repeat, because I know you can be dumb as a post about these things- I like this game and it's based on personal experience playing it rather than looking at it and thinking how cool I'll be because I'm playing an alternative Japanesey title that the masses are too ignorant to understand, only I and the very few like me can truly appreciate what Real videogaming is about, why don't the unwashed masses go back to their Maddens and GTAs. The game is fun and you're acting like a broken, bitter troll.

I just think it sounds really funny, no one in the thread has really praised it yet. I probably wouldn't even pick this up since reports from long ago said it was really short and really easy, but since it's budget-priced I'll probably go ahead.Quote:

Playing videogames means something different to every person, but I guess only a "certain few really get what it's about". This has got to be the dumbest statement I've ever seen written at TNL.
Yea, I was just wondering what it's like since no one in the thread even talked about it, but Dipstick gave me a nice, detailed runthrough and I think i'll give it a pass, espically since I'll probably already have Burnout 3.Quote:
