Overhead action shooters

Since this isn't all that popular a genre, I guess the best way to define it would be overhead shmupesque games that don't force you to stick to a fixed path. Or maybe a better definition would be the Ikari Warriors genre. I'm sure that everyone on TNL has played that game.;)

IMO Twinkle Tale for the Genny is by far the best game in this genre.

Kikikaikai (Nazo no kuromanto) is my favourite. Lots of charm, love the design.

You forgot Guwange, Elemental Master, Gunsmoke, and Undead Line.

I was just about to mention Time Soldiers.

Twinkle Tale is neat (surprised to see it get mention here lately... didn't think many people knew it), but I like Valkyrie no Densetsu more.

What's wrong with Gunsmoke? That game was awesome. I also love the Ikari Warrior games and even Rambo 3 on Genesis.

This genre needs to make a comeback.

Outzone by Toaplan is also one of my all time faves.
