All about Ys..

I just recently purchased the whole Ys series on the Turbo Duo/PC-E and am currently playing through all of them (IV being my fav so far, then 1&2 a close second/third and FAR off is 3) and enjoying them immensely. Now that I'm lovin 1 & 2, when I finish it, I plan on buying Ys Eternal Story on the PS2, my first import for the system (odd, I have TONS of imports on every other one of my systems, yet this is my first PS2 import). I'm figuring I have to import cause the chances of it coming here are/were just as great as having Policenauts translated here ;) I was just wondering if there any other Ys fans out there and if anyone has played the PS2 version of Eternal Story and what their thoughts are.....

ahhh you got them. i remember your trade depot post. this series to me is right next to Lunar as my all time favorite. im also thinking of getting ES which will be my first PS2 import (besides the PAL Silent Hill 3).

Yup, yup! Got each one mint (and IV with the spine card too!) and I agree with you 100% on the Lunar thing. As a matter of fact, playing Ys made me get all nostalgic about Lunar and how I still love my Sega CD versions too, besides the remakes, and also made me think again about importing Eternal Story. This may seem to like a dumb question, but since I havent really imported any PS2 games yet, is there a really good, reliable import converter out there and who is it by?

I can't speak for the PS2 version but after playing Eternal on the pc I will never go back to the TG16 games as good as those were. All I know about the PS2 version is that combat is enhanced depending on what items are equiped and there are some kind of art/music galleries. I'd buy it if I hadn't of bought the pc games:)

This thread made up my mind to buy Ys 6 and after watching a couple of the movies here http://www.falcom.com/ys6/download/index.html I certainly don't regret it. I think it's a shame Ys 4 is the SFC version and not the PC Engine game. I haven't played either so it's not a total loss:/

converter for the ps2? there's the swap magic discs that require you to change the upper shell of your system and swap the games with a boot disc (costing roughly $40), some love them, others like me who have a mod chip (messiah 2 pro installed $80) hate them.

I wonder about all the Y's 3 hate, is it just because the PCE version isn't very good, I played it on Genny and it's still one of my favorite action-RPGs of all time.

its just because its a side scroller and the story is kinda wonky. at least thats my reasons.

Mmm, nice impressions ferricide. Sounds like it's a nice remake, meaning it kept all the great stuff about the originals and just added extra nice stuff :) Yet, now I'm sad about the whole converter issue. At least with my original Playstation, I use an Action Replay and its cool, but, why Sony, WHY so much hatred for importers??? You refuse to let the game come here, yet you make life difficult for me just to play the import. This is gonna prove the most annoying to overcome now. My 3DO and Turbo are easiest since they were cool and had NO territory lock-outs. My Saturn and Playstation even have a regular converter and they work perfectly! Hmmm....Must figure somethin out now...want to really play Eternal Story but, for now, I go back to the annoying Solomon Shrine of Ys Book 2!

aside from super-janky faked parallax, i think the PCE version is the best one because of the music and cinemas. people (including myself) just didn't (don't?) like it because it was inconsistent with the first two games and it was quite short. i beat it in practically one sitting when it came out, whereas ys i & ii could not have felt more epic (i'm talking my circa 1990 impressions here.)
