Underworld

Since Underworld is coming out in a few days, it's time to start an official thread.

I saw it last night at a sneak preview. It was very disappointing.

I may be partly biased because I'm a fan of White Wolf, but this movie fell waaaay short of expectations. There were a couple good action scenes, and Kate Beckinsale looks really hot, but overall the bad outweighed the good: really shitty acting (to quote my girlfriend, "it was like they spent all their acting money on Beckinsale and got the rest of the cast from the local LARP"), really stupid plot, even the action was disappointing. For a movie about two races of supernatural beings, there were far too few supernatural powers bandied about and too much boring gunfighting. Overall the film failed to impress me.

Anybody else see an early screening?

I've heard it was disappointing from some people at AICN which sucks so I might or might not watch this movie.

Well that is too bad I had high hopes for this film. For these type of films, I'm not too concerned about acting, but if the action scenes themselves are few and far between, I'll have to reconsider if I want to spend time and money watching this.

I'll have to see what Despair, Dolemite, and Werewolf, etc think of it.

Hey there's always the Fighting Temptations instead this weekend!

Wow...this sucks. I was supposed to go see it Thursday night, but I just started reading all these negative reviews.

Oh well. I'll probably still go see it. I just saw Cabin Fever tonight, and Underworld CAN'T be any worse than that garbage!

Well, I will be there on Friday, and will post my thoughts, after I see it. So far the reviews I read were ranging from good to bad. I am keeping my expectations low(it always works better this way) but I hope that it delivers.

I already seen one bad vampire film this week(HK Twins Effect) and I in need for a good one.

I will add that Beckinsale looks much thinner than usual in this film. I do hope she hasn't acquired an eating disorder.

Also, Despair is going to love the climax.

I'll be having a personal midnight showing tomorrow night and I figure it will be worth at least that. Considering that it's vampires versus werewolves and the lupins looked damned cool in the trailers I was hoping for some good, fast, powerful Blade 2-like fights. It ain't so, Sleeveboy? It ain't so?

Bah, the movies people have expressed an interest in seeing that we're showing are also the movies that already have bad things said about them before release (the other one being Cold Creek Manor). This sucks.

sleeveboy, were you aware that White Wolf is suing the makers of Underworld due to over 35 points of similarity? WW says it's too obvious to be just a coincidence. I don't play WW games, but a friend of mine does, and he's super pissed. The lawsuit comes too late to stop the theatrical release, but it could hit the studio for proceeds and may stop DVD distribution. We'll see what happens.

I was initially hyped for the film, but the more I learn & see about it, the less excited I get.
