Border Down - DC & Arcade

The top-left corner trick isn't foolproof. One replay I've seen has the player taking time on the first form of the boss to build up some levels, while on the 2nd form he'll break laser the boss on the attack JUST BEFORE the pain-in-the-arse kamikaze rush. Best way to be is to prevent it entirely.

I'm now up to 123M- I haven't really bothered trying to get 200+ break on the finish for the 5th boss, nor have I worried about the time (my kill on this record was pretty hasty with 4x.xx left on the timer).

I played a 6C route a couple of weeks ago. It has a kamikazee spreading balls attack on the 2nd form (as you say), just like 6D has on its 3rd form. The only difference is that the 6D one spreads out more balls. It seems to be a bit of a lottery as to whether the Boss rushes straight into you from behind (point blank!). The Jap players stay in the top left area of the screen for this attack, but I've had more success with the bottom left & 2 speeds.

The more I play Gradius V default, the more I appreciate Border Down.

:eek: Holy crap that's a high score!! How does that score rank on the BD world record charts? Has anyone hit 300 mil (is that even possible?)?

You 100+ mil guys are far too good at this game, I just don't have the patience for it.

That's because Randorama isn't human. Have you seen some of the stuff he writes about this game? It's practically a dissertation.

For scores over 300 mil, there's YOH in Japan (326 million the last I've heard).

Another thing- if you play stage 3 all the way in green border, you can actually get a better score than you can on a YR-R-R border path (which usually gets me 45-48M). This involves a 999 Break on the boss' first form. I've downloaded a video of this ST3G method myself from someplace. This one ends up with the player netting 2244 Total Break & 70M for the stage.

Quite a jump for me this time. I've started going for the 70M on ST3G, but this time I butchered it with an unintentional death on Green Border. :yuck: So from there, I played my usual YR-R-R path for stage 3. The death in stage 5 was also accidental BTW. However, I did go on a rampage in 6D which ended with a 311 Break on the Boss' first form.
