it's unreal. i played the first level (half way) and was bewildered at why anything that looked like that (let alone contained the shit they put in there) took something like 4 years to make. They completely lost me when they made me shoot cyborg frogs. At least, I think that's what they were.
John Romero can suck my nuts. Such a cocky bastard before the game released, and now look at him. He's producing games for cell-phones last I heard. Jack ass.
This is also one I've never played (I can't even FIND it, or I'd buy it), but judging by my history on liking horrible games, I bet it's gonna end up being in my top 10. And that's kinda sad.
Here is a place to look for it. Starting a $1.44!!

MINE!
It might've been cool had it released when it was supposed too (something like 3 years before it actually did release), during half the development cycle the game wasn't actually being worked on.
My friend bought the last remaining copy at EB for about $5... but right afterwards, his car broke down, he lost the chance for a promotion at his job (which was coming to him), and his girlfriend broke up with him. The game is cursed. And I say that with total seriousness.
But barring that the game isn't really AWFUL, the only thing really really terrible about it is the character and enemy design ("Superfly" Johnson, ugh). The game is just really really mediocre, and there is nothing that stands out about it. The graphics weren't that bad, I remember, but they weren't great and the character design was really crappy.
The game actually has a ton of variety - theres like 35 weapons and four different time periods, each with new weapons and enemies. But the only useful weapon really was the Daikatana, so all of that effort was just misguided.
In all honesty... there are far, far worse FPS games that have been made, just the game gets the heat for that stupid "Romero's gonna make you his bitch" ad. GameSpy needs to stop fucking talking about it like its the Bubonic Plague. Curses notwithstanding.
The game isn't the worst and it's actually playable if you stick around for long enough(Though I dunno why youw ould at this point in the games life) but it still is quite a bad game. The beginning of the game is actually the worst part(That being the future area).
The level design there is terrible, the weapons are terrible, the enemies are a joke and you have to deal with ai partners. If your ai partners die, you die too, and they will die alot. Be it getting stuck in doorways and having the doors smash them, not following you correctly, dropping off ladders and whatnot. You have to always babysit them and they love to incorrecly follow you, or gett stuck on a ladder and block your path so that you cannot continue on. The platforming added is bad enough but when you have to hope to god they can do it too, your life is over. Be ready to hear "I can't leave without my buddy Superfly" a zillion times.
The game actually gets pretty decent once you hit the Greek area and beyond. Your new weapon sets are better, the level design is much better and the enemies are actually something you'd want to kill. Not to say the game gets magically good, but it becomes much much more playable than is was before.
Had this game come out on time, and John Romero not made those insane better than Half-Life statements, it wouldn't have been crushed as bad as it was, maybe even scoring in the 70's from some publications.
It's only decent in multiplayer, but there are better multiplayer games so no reason you should bother. Single play is really, really boring. It's not 'oh my god my eyes are bleeding!' but it's still crappy.
