Okay, so I've read all sorts of stuff about Prop 53 but I've been unable to come to a conclusion about what way to vote on it. So I was wondering if my fellow Californians could give me some pros and cons for the proposition so that way I can push that chad through with confidence tomorrow evening. Any info on why I should or should not vote yes on 53 would be appreciated. Thanks, guys!
Well I'm not a californian, but I would vote no on that. Spending and Budget issues are something that should be left up to the legislation... not imbeded into the constitution of the state.
Well, I did some Google research and came up with some nonpartisan analyses of the proposition. Basically, they're saying that 3% of the General Fund (taxpayer money) absolutely has to be allocated to infrastructure (roads, parks, etc., though not for schools or colleges). The good side of this is that California has apparently been neglecting these sorts of things and this will force them to do so. It also goes with NO tax increase. However, the down side is that the lack of tax increase means the money will come at the expense of other things. It also goes into the California Constitution when it should probably be decided by the Legislature.
I'll probably vote no on it. It seems like it doesn't dictate WHERE the infrastructure is improved and it doesn't look fiscally sound.

Oh my! Where do you think the legilature gets the money they spend? From taxes on the people. I've never heard anyone ever say that it's a good idea for the people's money to be spent without their input on where it goes. It seems to me that putting something like this up for vote is a positive thing and not a negative thing.
California's infrastructure is terrible. It's as though the State stopped maintaining it 30 years ago even though the population continued to explode. What I don't understand about Prop 53 is why it's 'hands off' schools. When's the last time a school was built in California? In Sacramento they don't have funds to put to school building so instead of new schools, the existing schools just get more and more portable buildings and the real structures themselves become delapidated.
And while the powers that be would try to convice Californians that the energy crisis of the state was caused by evil corporations like Enron, what about the fact that the electrical infrastructure of the state hasn't been updated for like 30 years? In-state growth didn't stop 30 years ago, but California's electrical infrastructure today is the same one it was then, but supporting a much larger base.
I won't even go into the 'take water from the north and give it to the south' except to say that that doesn't make northerners too happy, especially when they are told they're in a drought.
If this happened in a game of SimCity, the advisors would have 18 blinking red warnings scroll by every 20 seconds. More people need to play SimCity to learn how to run shit properly.Quote:

Personally, I'd like to have a Governer that can bench press 300 pounds at 55 years of age or something.

Woo. Just realized I made Callinders sig. I just got the expansion pack for Sim City 4 and if there is a water or electric shorted, all sorts of shit starts blinking. Lighting bolts with red crosses through them start popping up all over, the utilitys advisor turns red, messages like "Shitty air, water worse" messages keep blink at you (in red of course) You want it to stop just so you can see the city.
