New Pac-Man game offers new multiplayer fun
During this year's Nintendo E3 2003 press conference, the first details revealing an all-new multiplayer version of Pac-Man would be making its way to the Nintendo GameCube in the immediate future. You do remember Pac-Man right -- waka waka waka? Well, even if you weren't among the many players who spent hours at the arcade or within their homes playing one of Namco's most popular franchises, you'll soon be able to enjoy it --- for free!
To recap, Pac-Man vs. lets players compete head-to-head using a Game Boy Advance and a Nintendo GameCube, connected by a Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance cable. One player uses the Game Boy Advance to control Pac-Man as he gobbles his Pac-Dots. Up to three other players on the Nintendo GameCube control the Ghosts and chase Pac-Man around the board. If a player's Ghost catches Pac-Man, those players swap controllers and the game continues. Whoever hits the predetermined scoring cap first wins the game.
Thanks to the special connectivity feature to the Game Boy Advance, consumers who pick up a copy of Pac-Man World 2 or R: Racing Evolution will receive a free copy of the multiplayer Pac-Man bundled with the respective games. On a related note, Pac-Man World 2 just recently became the newest addition to the Nintendo Player's Choice lineup and will go on sale December 2 at an MSRP of $19.95. R: Racing Evolution will be available December 4 for $49.95.
"The partnership between Nintendo and Namco gives game fans a new spin on an old favorite," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president for marketing and corporate communications. "This Pac-Man may be the best ever, because it brings together players and systems in a whole new way."
