This generation's sequels to classic series
So what do you think of this generation's sequels to classic series?
My thoughts on some of them:
Shinobi - A good game. It's nowhere near my favourite in the series and the level design needs work but I liked it enough to be excited for Nightshade.
Wario World - I was quite pleased with this one. Treasure pulled off an old-school platformer in 3d without resorting to scavenger hunt BS.
Wario Ware - This is definitely my top Wario game and one of the best games of this generation. It's so original and addictive.
Zelda WW - A very polished game but my enjoyment was hindered by too much of a "been there, done that" feeling. Ocarina is a better game but Wind Waker is much more well-made than Majora's Mask.
Megaman - I haven't played the GBA ones yet(I can't even keep track of them all) but I thought the GC game sucked.
Street Fighter III - I love the animation and gameplay but I'm not too keen on some of the character designs.
Castlevania - I haven't played the PS2 one yet but I'm not too optimistic after reading people's opinions. Same goes for TMNT. At least I really like the GBA Castlevania games.
Super Mario Sunshine - Not a bad game but the design doesn't compare to previous Marios. It's a shame, especially since it looks, sounds and controls beautifully.
Planet Harriers - A dull sequel to an all-time classic.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - I was impressed with the demo(wall running rocks) but I haven't played enough to fully judge it yet.
Advance Wars - These games kick ass and are among my favourite strategy games. There's such attention to detail.
Sonic Adventure - I loved the first one although not as much as the Genesis games. The adventure segments were underdeveloped but the action was excellent. SA2 was disappointing. Instead of fixing the problems with SA1(non-Sonic characters), they made the problems worse.
Metroid Fusion - Good stuff but they messed with the Metroid formula a but too much.
Metroid Prime - A worthy transition to 3d for the series. I still think Super is superior though.
Phantasy Star Online - I spent many hours with the first DC version. It's obviously a different experience than the old PStar games but I felt it lived up to the name.
