This much-anticipated, half-a-decade-old, fan-created PC game finally gets released today. Not surprsingly, reviews vary: Gamespot, for example, doesn't find it offering much over and above the PC incarnations, not to mention its smaller (and reportedly jerkier) scale; Gamespy, on the other hand, is considerably more effusive in its praise, citing much-improved graphics, a sharp interface, and excellent play.
I'm sure the game will sell well enough, and I'm equally sure that some significant percentage of the the PC-faithful will groan over (1) the smaller scale matches; (2) the lack of m/kb; and perhaps mostly (3) the fact that something that was exclusively "theirs" isn't any longer, therefore it must be trashed and ultimately dismissed.
Counter-Strike isn't high on my list, but I'm tempted to pick this up, mainly because Rainbow Six 3 has whetted my appetite for short, bloody team combat matches. Also, I'm protected by ignorance, having not played the PC revs to death.
Hopefully, the game will entertain on its own merits, and hopefully the trend of teaming up with other TNLers will continue.
