Where the SEGA franchises are... (will be)

I first played Virtual On on the Saturn, with a Saturn pad, and did fairly ok. And when I purchased VOOT for DC, I was at a loss with the provided control schemes, non of them really made sense to me, and that seems to be the main reason why I have barely touched the game. I have used the Twin Sticks once in the arcade a long time ago, when I had no idea about the game. It just seems like the Twin Sticks are required. I am sure if I took a lot of time to learn the DC controls it would feel better, but all the provided options are odd to me, it makes no sense that I can't configure my own set up! Also, can you use the Twin Sticks with the American VOOT? Saturn or Import DC.

I'd like to see you pull off a Swallow's Tail with ease on the pad. Or, try to be a good Dordray or Raiden player with the pad.

I'm not talking out of my ass. The sticks are better than the pad. That's not to say the pad is trash, as I feel VOOT controls fine with the pad. I played with the pad for about a year. But for a lot of the more "advanced" techniques (Watari dashing is NOT advanced. It's pretty much a requirement, as is jump-cancelling. Turning should NOT be used to find your opponent), the sticks are simply better. I'd say that they're marginally better than using an arcade stick over the pad for most "normal" fighting games.

That's what I think.

You would be surprised how many people don't know what a Watari Dash is.

Master and StriderKyo: Yes, the Twin Sticks make that big a difference to me. I loved VO in the arcades (despite how badly I did), and when I got VOOT, I tried to deal with the controls, I really did. But I always felt like I was never in control, and could never turn or move how I wanted to with the DC pad. I eventually just decided that the amount of control wrestling wasn't worth it, and just finally put it aside.

Maybe I'll give it a try again, after learning GunValk. But I really need Twin Sticks before I'll feel comfortable with it.

Ah, I love this comment. It's so true... more power = better games! Remember back in the day, when the SNES had better hardware than the Genesis? Didn't that get the best games possible, while the Genny was dead in the water? Yeah, what a crappy system that turned out to be. And remember the Jaguar? That killed those measly 16 and 32 bit systems with it's superior "64" bit games. Sure wish Sega hadn't wasted their efforts on that Saturn, that thing was so dead in the water.

Of course, now that the PS2 has run it's course, it's so useless... no one can make a good game on such ancient hardware. It's been out, like, forever, man. What a dinosaur.

I dunno...I make no claims at being a VO:OT master, but I've played both arcade (okay, only VO:OM) and DC, and there's only a few things that are really tougher to pull off, Cypher's flying being the main thing. And there are other more significant things, like jump cancelling, that I'd say are easier to do on DC. Hey, Dango said DC was better, so I'm not sure whose word to believe...

The PS2 is more than capable of handling games that are on the X-Box/GC with the exception of first person shooters. Sure, there might be some hiccups here and there, but it's not as if the game is gonna look a "generation" worse than the other versions. The most noticeable difference would be the aliasing, as we're all aware of the PS2's inability to handle those damned jaggies. But remember people, we're talking about Sega here. These kids can pull wine out of a system if need be; they're more than capable of creating games on all three systems equally impressive. Yes the PS2 version will be the "ugliest" of the three, but it wouldn't hurt the game to any great extent, which includes JSRF.

What an unfounded statement, the PS2 is worse all around. Ports that weren't made with it in mind in the first place wouldn't work very well IE rallisport challenge, JSRF, munch, etc. None of those are first person shooters BTW. The hard drive is the biggest difference. As opposed to performance, it changes the very design limitations. If you found an Xbox centric game that you could port with any semblance of it's prior self, the framerate would be hell.

JSRF _can not_ run at 30 FPS. It just can't and still be playable.

One of the flaws in the game is when you get all the people in your garage, the garage sometimes hits 30 FPS, which means you can no longer practice there. Kiss your carefully trained timing good-bye. The character controls like he's wading in mud the whole time.

Now play the garage like this, but also imagine terrible low rez textures and jagged polygons, and that's what playing it on a PS2 would be like. Of course, the PS2 could only handle the garage in the first place, at least without a hard drive to help out with the huge levels. I can't even imagine what the occasional stutters would be like on a less powerful console, which the PS2 factually is.

Bottom line. JSRF on PS2 would be unplayable. I hope Sega still has some pride left because a port would be a waste of resources. Though honestly I don't care if they port it or not because it doesn't take away from my experience.

I found VOOT to be incredibly playable on DC, largely because I used only Fei-Yen. My friends stuck with Cypher (noticeing that his Jet form was Inearly impossible to control - he actually switched to an Astropad (!!) and found it easier to control it), Raiden and ApharmdB (AphB is a tough son of a bitch in the right hands). We all got comfy with the DC Pad controls - I guess we're not good enough....

and Jump Canceling is easier then turning.
