The plot:
OPENS WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17 - The final chapter in The Lord of the Rings trilogy continues the odyssey of Frodo and his Fellowship, and the ultimate fate of the One Ring. The search is on for the Cracks of Doom, and as massive battles are waged across Middle Earth, it is discovered that there is an heir to the line of ancient kings, who will help defeat the dark forces of Lord Sauron.

Well, I think it will be great. I just hope there will be more personal fights like in Fellowship, and less en-masse hordes clashing like in Two Towers.

Anyone feeling a bit sad about going to see it? After ROTK, it'll be over. Sure, there will be the extended edition, and possible further editions, but I feel like it's going to be a long time before something as special as the LOTR movies ever reaches the cinemas again.
Hmm, I dont think I am feeling the same way about LOTR as our Green here :) Sure those are great films, but I always find another movie to look forward to :) Bring on Van Hellsing and Hellboy :)

Exclusive: PJ's Cameo in ROTK!

Our staffer on the scene in Wellington, Demosthenes, was at the Te Papa press conference and media roundtable and also spoke to Richard Taylor. It seems that PJ has a brief cameo in ROTK as one of the Corsairs. WETA guys Richard Taylor and Gino Acevedo also have Corsair cameos. In fact, PJ cut an extended fight scene with himself from the film - a two-minute stretch of fight with a major character.
Holy crap.

I adore Fellowship. Based on the wonderful experience of seeing it, I had sky-high expectations when Two Towers came out. Needless to say, I was disappointed in a lot of ways, partly due to my own expectations, partly due to some decisions on the part of the filmmakers (I still disagree with how they handled Gollum, who's my favorite character).
Now, with King almost here, I really can't wait to see it. I already have first-screening tickets. However, I am going in with much-lowered expectations this time. I expect some of it to be brilliant, and some of it to be really questionable. I do not expect it to be better than Fellowship, based on what I know about it already.
Don't PJ and those WETA guys have cameos in all the films?
Despair, there will definitely be huge battle scenes. I expect a couple of personal fights, but nothing like the FOTR battles.
The trilogy has been quite an achievement. Some of the changes made to the films' plots have been very puzzling to me, but in the end, there's little doubt in my mind that the best of the books (Fellowship) will end up being the best of the films. What PJ & Co. did with it was absolutely wonderful.
I'm with BioMechanic. FOTR blew me away, while TT was pretty meh, dissappointing even (though the extended edition is much better). Judging by what was done in TT, one has a good idea of how ROTK will be handled, at least battle-wise, and I can't say it is what I envisioned from the book. Who knows, I may be pleasantly surprised.
I'll still see it the first weekend, but it's almost like it will be a preview before the REAL edition comes out on DVD next November.
I stayed up till late in the AM last night re-reading ROTK. Theres nothing like the cynical ranting of a LOTR fanboy about book changes on Dec. 18.
