Japanese Goths kick the shit out of US Goths

Oh man, that Japanese goth magazine is cool. I'd love to order that but unfortunately am strapped for cash at the moment. That's cool to see they have a good deal of respect for the gothic subculture in Japan, not that I'm really suprised. I don't much about it over there except Malice Mizer. My local goth club regularly does play obscure and foreign gothic/industrial music and I'll have to put in a request there when I go next Wednesday. We're also going to have a rather big gathering on December 13th called Christmas Nightmare and I'm hoping to have the money to attend.

Well, first, Japanese "goths" and American "goths" aren't the same kind of people. The Japanese version isn't the whiny, self-loathing, live in the dark kind of lifestyle like many of ours are. The Japanese side is more about the clothing and style and less about a "lifestyle."

All of the Goths and Lolis that I met were really nice people who weren't trying to be something that they aren't, they just enjoyed wearing interesting clothing and seeing what kinds of outfits they could put together or make. So, you know, a few Westerners want to think they're idiots and their clothing is gay, I'm sure their lifes will continue on as normal.

Here's some pics from a party that I went to in Kobe. Most of the girls are more on the Lolita side of things, but there are some Goths in the mix.

Most of the goths I know aren't the whiny, self-loathing types either. That's just a stereotype. Most goths really enjoy themselves. My best friend is one of the "leaders" of the local gothic community here (she's put on shows, has her own CD, was co-founder of a big annual gothic arts festival... ah, just go to her site here.) and she's one of the most perkiest people I've ever met. Really. Honestly.

Wow, that's rather... Odd. Definitely not a part of their culture I've seen much about, and I'm equally ignorant about it in a lifestyle sense. Interesting that they're more about the fashion/clothing side, rather than the damn angst-filled whores we get around here.

... Still freaks me out, though. Some of those girls just look too creepy dressed like that. Blah.
