This is just nuts man.....
So sad.....and yet so funny
"This is not a funny matter to us," says Hiro Suzuki of the Japanese embassy. "Our citizens who look forward to a pleasurable time in America are being laughed at, spat upon, roughed up and humiliated without knowing what they said wrong. Tourists have been found beaten to a pulp on street corners with this terrible phrase book still in their hands."

A 45-year-old tourist from Okinawa looking for the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem thought he was asking a group of young men, "I am lost. Which way is uptown?" In reality, he said, "I know martial arts. May I kick your ass?" He was chased five blocks before being rescued by police.
I laugh, but I shouldn't. My friends in Japan call periodically when they're stateside with their father on business... They've intentionally given me false translations for when I talk to their father. I'm sure he thinks me either mentally retarded or very rude. My grasp of the language is very loose, so I still haven't figured out a few of the things I've said to that man.
You'd be using honoriffic speech, most likely so... it will take you forever to figure out what to say to him (and how to say it). In fact, you will probably never figure it out. I dont even think Japanese people fully know.Quote:

Heh, I have trouble talking to the boys with the whole informal setting and everything, it's a pain. My Japanese is beyond horrible, and their English isn't so great. We end up with a very sloppy and incomprehensible hybrid language that's a blast to try and speak. We usually communicate through email- Free, can include pictures and MS paint stick figure explanations, as well as random English and kana.Quote:

Man that is by far the funniest thing I've read today. Even if it isn't true it's still hilarious.
