But how many people know that? Very few. Apple themselves, to which the vast majority will go to for battery issues, charges 100 bucks for a battery change, and this is a recent thing at that. My girlfriend just got the 10 gig model today Fed-Exed to her as a present from her Mom. She was all excited until she realized that she needed a USB port cable and a docking station to be able to use the damn thing. She ordered them next-day (extra $25 'cause it's x-mas), but until they come all she can do it turn it on and off. Whee. Sounds like a cool little toy, however.

i have an iPod, but were i getting a new MP3 player today i'd get the new Rio HD unit because of the FLAC support. The iPod isn't all that great, as i've outlined in several previous iPod threads. Do a search. Battery life is already declining in mine :yuck:

They've done it before. The G5 wasn't even out 6 months and then Apple announces price drops and a dual 1.8 model. They also had 10, 15, and 30 ipods announced, sold them for 4 months, and then switched to 10, 20, and 40 models.

I would put nothing past Apple, and I wouldn't doubt that people would eat it up ^^

Everything you said is nice and all... but doesn't change the fact that you can replace the battery in an iPod for $50 or so. So, you know, whatever.

Uhm... because that's how life, companies, retail, and all of that rest of that work? If a company knows it is going to drop the price on their product, but also knows that the product is going to sell like mad during the holiday season, they would have to be a stupid company to do the price drop before the holidays are over.

And, anyone familiar with Apple knows that January is one of the typical times for big new-item or price drop announcements. If you plan to purchase anything from, doing a few minutes of research on the internet can easily teach you when their typical announce windows are. From there, you quickly learn not to buy anything until after the nearest of those times has come and gone.

Why is that a huge factor? Convert your wav to an mp3, compressing by at least 50% in the process, and be on your way.

A huge factor, and really inexcusable, is the iPod's inability to play oggs.

lithium, Chibi cant stand mp3s. He hears the compression. Only uncompressed WAVs will do for him. I know this because he says it in every thread related to mp3 or mp3 players.

As for OGG... who uses that crap?
