Well, yeah. The story is one of those love it or hate it things, I've found. Coming from an RPG fanatic it is one of those I found to be in the "generic japanese story" category.

Alternate dimensions... body switching... yeah those are a major part of the "generic japanese story". :rolleyes:Quote:

Are you complaining about the fact that you went into a new screen for battles (as opposed to staying in the same screen like Trigger)? Are you serious? You are complaining about that, like it's some big deal? Get the fuck over it.
"OMG THE GAME SWITCHES TO A NEW SCREEN FOR A BATTLE!!!111oneone *tear*"
Nobody says the sequel has to be exactly like the original.
It had to be removed to make sure the original game's storyline was still relevant. How can you have a game with time travel elements that ties into another game with time travel elements? You create paradoxes in the story, and you threaten to make the original story obsolete.Quote:
2. What the heck happened to the time travel elements?
Maybe you would've liked it if they went back in time and had a slumber party with Chrono and Lucca and Robo, but for some reason, I doubt it.
Wrong. I forgot most of it but I remember the color stuff. Yea, they didnt have an emphasis on the tag team stuff but really, who gives a shit? Stupid gamers were whining like babies when CC came out because it didnt have that stuff, who cares. At least they tried something different. The energy bar or whatever (I forget how it worked) was a great addition and made every battle fun. Chrono Cross had a lot of great things, but the battle system was probably the best part of it.Quote:
3. Combat skills were changed to pretty much attack one or all. All those different area of effect attack in the original were all lost and a lot of stategy lost.
Yes, too many characters. You're right on that one.Quote:
4. The actually managed to get even less character development than the original which most thought was impossible.
The story was awesome. It expanded and built upon the Chrono Trigger storyline without cheapening it or making it obsolete. Very hard to do when you're dealing with a game that was about time travel. Chrono Cross had a great story.Quote:
5. One turd of a story. I know the original didn't have much in the way of a story, but atleast it wasn't crap like the one in CC.
CC is my 2nd or 3rd favorite RPG ever, after KOTOR and... something else. The game was really fun and interesting, and felt a lot different from most plodding, pretentious Japanese RPGs.

Atleast someone in this thread has taste. :pQuote:

Well it made a HUGE difference for me since I am one of those RPG nuts that makes certain rules for himself to make games harder. Like in CT, I never rested or bought any weapons. All the items I got were from chests and enemies.Quote:

As for the colour system, it wasn't that great once you got use to it. It was waayy to easy to abuse. And the combat system made it really hard to make the summons as effective as possible. That was my main gripe with the game. You got all these cool summons, yet it meant that if you wanted to make them as powerful as possible you had to make yourself weaker againt the enemy you targetted. As a fan of the summons in the game, I went through a lot of pain while making them as effective as possible. It would have been much easier if I never used them.
It's not Chrono Cross' fault that you do that.Quote:

I dont have it, so I would say CC is my third favorite RPG behind KOTOR and Baldurs Gate 2.Quote:

Then don't use it.
The game's not perfect, but the battle system is great and the story is great. It's a great game. As good as Chrono Trigger? Depends on your perspective. I thought it was.
But unless you're a pitiful, whining baby who posts on RPGamer or something, by no means did Cross "rape Trigger's name".
Edit: Had Jet Grind Radio not existed, it would have easily been GOTY for 2000 for me.
... You are probably right. But being one of the biggest CT nuts out there, it was a real dissapointment to me.
