You can't scream prejudice just because the truth is ugly.

I personally belive the borders should be tight, but not on keeping out but in makeing sure everyone who wants to come in can. They aren't taking American job because the more people there are in an area the more jobs that will be required to sustain them. And yeah, Brittney and Jacob down the street aren't getting thier first job in the sand foundry or apple orchard.

The reason that the "backbreaking" labor is low-paying is because it's low-skilled. Prejudice? You don't know the half of it. This issue comes up all the time in my classes. I love to ask 30 stidents how many of them would be willing to pick coffee, mow grass along the highway, or cut sugar cane and the response is always ZERO. With so many opportunities to get and education, be it through universities, community colleges, tech institutes, whatever; today's youth simply neither wants or needs to do menial labor.

If you raise the pay for those jobs, you'll have to raise the salaries of those above them to compensate. Not gonna happen. This country's priorities about which jobs are important is so fucked up it'll never change. Where else does a basketball player make millions while teachers get paid peanuts?

Melf: because there is an EXTREMELY HIGH DEMAND for good basketball players but an EXTREMELY LOW SUPPLY of them. Simple economics.

That's the thing that I'm thinking. A lot of Americans have their heads so far up their ass that they couldn't consider being that low in society! How fucking bad!

To me that's all bullshit, the American dream is too. Being wealthy and everything is good but most people in our country treat it like it's the most important thing in existance, I personally don't care and would rather not be too wealthy. If I was rich I'd send my money to get Indian girls out of forced prostitution, not furnish my house with another HDTV.

Back when my parents were getting back together and my dad was having some real serious problems with herion and ended up going off to rehab for awhile my mom was spending just about every hour of her day working to just pay the rent and she sent me to my grandparents house every night to eat, I think she only ate the food she was provided with at work. Her hard work and dedication to working and keeping the two of us provided for have gotten her a little more money, even know she only makes $11 an hour, but the sad thing is that she will probably have to continue to bust her ass until the day she dies, but she'll continue to do what most of our society would be unwilling to do.

Americans need to get their head's out of the sky and down to ground level I say.

Point. But that's not the way it should be, even in a "first world country". If your kids are starving and sleeping in their own filth, you get a job. ANY job, and you fucking support them. These people SHOULD take crappy jobs if they can't find/aren't qualified to get anything else. But these people would rather leech off people like me who work for a living. Get out there, mow a lawn or pick some apples, bitch.

Actually you dont even have to do that. At my local ShopRite, they paid me $11 an hour to do what I did - stock shelves for 6 hours a night. The hours are shitty, obviously, but you dont need to deal with customers and you could just put on a pair of headphones and rock out while you stock tuna. It's shitty work, to be sure, but the pay isn't bad and finding work like that is really easy.

Honestly though I was hoping to find a job where I would dig ditches or something all day... I would've gotten a dope tan and some muscle definition. My mom was dating this guy from Peru or something (he got his green card... I think) and he was working for an electrician making pretty decent money. The work is out there.

You just gotta look on the bright side of this shit.

I'd rather stock shelves than work in sales/retail any day.

And I think construction work / landscaping (which I think would be your ditch digging?) still have some prestige in our society. There's some skill involved, and the jobs can pay pretty well.

I'm all for this new bill. Immigrants work harder than people born here, and they are going to be here anyway, and this way we can keep track of them, and they will now pay taxes.

I don't see what the problem is. They are going to be here anyway, and I have no problem with that.
