Because it's got the shiniest cars. I have no problem with the actual racing portions but I got sick of doing the same stuff over and over and dealing with those horrible license tests back in the first game. It's fine for enthusiasts who also happen to like videogames but I'd rather play something enjoyable...

...like that game. Rallisport is awesome, damned fun game.

If I want to play sim I'll pull out F355, it pulls off the feel of a real car a whole lot better then GT does.

I'm a racing game fan, but I honestly tend to lean more in the arcade direction. The GT series is really the only sim that I've put much effort into. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it, but with the points already brought up I think another great element of the series is the game's depth. Do you have any idea how long it takes to get everything in GT3? A very long time. That's another point that the series has over others, the amount of cars. It's starting to become the norm to include a large car roster in racing games, but we're not really there yet.
When you get all of the cars in GT, you're one proud sonofabitch. ;)

heh, I'm not a big fan of GT3 either. One time I was playing a friend's game, and picked out my car (91 RX-7)... I couldn't keep the damn thing on the road, it was rather funny.

Of course, he had it up to 500 hp, if the real thing was 500hp I don't think I could control it either, the tires would never grip.

You have to be a car nut/casual gamer who doesn't know any better/graphics whore to stick with it the whole way. Personally, I think the game's excellent and there's nothing out there on the same level as far as consumer auto sims go, but the idiotic amount of repetition required to advance totally kills it after a while. I put a solid 30-40 hours into it before giving up, realising it would eventually take close to 200. I did manage to get my Evo VII up to 520 hp, though; that was kind of cool.

Project Gotham Racing 2....... better. Yes.

whenever i find myself playing GT2 or 3, I eventually realize that i'm not having nearly as much fun as i could be having with something like LeMans on the DC or a good online racer like PGR2..

plus the soundtrack is awful.. (although it's not much better in pgr2)

In defense of the license tests - they exist to teach you how to drive using the controller. Jumping into the game without learning the basics of how a car handles under different circumstances will only lead you to more frustration when you can't win a race without modifing the hell out of you car (which you can't do without winning a race, and so on).

It should be fairly easy to pass almost all the tests on the first or second try with a bronze - with some notable exceptions taking longer (the Viper test on Laguna Seca for example). If you're trying for gold in every test then it's your choice to punish/enjoy yourself.

The game is extremely enjoyable (for me) once you learn to control your car and start to shave off seconds on laptimes. It's like learning to throw a fireball in Street Fighter 2, the game was never the same and you discover there is so much more you can do besides kick and punch. Of course every car is different :p - I can drive my Mitsu 95 GTO but can't handle a rear wheel drive car worth a damn.

Yeah. I like the series and I can't wait for part 4.

Bishop, I also grew up reading Motor Trends, Road & Tracks, going to car shows, etc., and with that being said, I still find the GT games to be extremely boring as racing games. As car showcases, they're great, but as a racing title I can enjoy for hours on end for months at a time, the series just doesn't cut it.
