Ken Levine: There's a reason some of the best games have come out of development houses that don't have a publisher breathing down their neck -- that can release product when it's ready rather then when the financial quarter dictates. Think of Id, think of Valve, even think of small companies like Battlefront (makers of Combat Mission). None of this is intended as a knock against publishers. Without a large publisher like EA, it would have been very hard to bring the level of exposure to Freedom Force that we received. But now we have that exposure; the brand is established, we are in constant contact with the fans. We can afford to fund the title on our own. We have a great PR company with Erica Kohnke's group. It's very difficult to find an equation where the publisher is going to add a lot of value to a brand that we understand so well.
