Xbox circular disc scratches

Today I noticed all my Xbox discs have thin circular scratches on them. Has this happened to anyone else?

When I first got my PS2 I had a similar problem but that was because I was shutting the machine off by the back switch with the game in because I didn't know about the sleep mode. Once I stopped doing that it was no longer a problem. But with the Xbox, I don't see a solution except maybe taking the discs out every time, assuming it scratches it when the power button is hit and not the reset button.

It really pisses me off because I buy almost all my games new because I want to keep them in perfect condition. The only time I ever checked the discs before was when I first opened the packages so I never noticed the problem before.

My Sony (a trend? heh) CD Clock Radio started to stratch most my music CD's. Sometimes I'd hear it scratch. So I got a MP3 Player. There's a lesson to this story but I dont like it. :P

If it is a launch Xbox, then I have the same problem.

You can call Microsoft, but all they'll do is tell you it's normal and they don't affect the play of the discs. You just have to get a new one.

I got it a year after launch, the JSRF/Sega GT bundle. I think that's a different model.

Yeah, that's a much later version of it, Neo. It's strange, I'd never heard of this problem before, I thought only vertical PS2s did this kind of thing.

That's because you're not supposed to be placing Zelda:WW underneath your XBox discs. Honestly.

Wait.Rewind. Sleep mode? - am I missing something because I always shut mine off from the back switch too.

Hold down the reset button until the light turns red. Walla. Sleep mode. You're technically supposed to leave the console in this state when done playing it.

I do that, then just turn it off with the back switch. I don't think it's caused a problem yet.

Neo: figure out which DVD drive version you have and replace the lens or just swap out the whole drive with a new one.

Here for the whole drive and just eBay for the lens if you have a Thompson, TechConsoles is the seller I got mine from and it was alot cheaper than Llama's price.
