no actually you are right on this point, a leader who can motivate loyalty is worth more than one who motivates with fear, i had a manager like that, and being able to respect the guy giving orders is great for morale. the thing is, there will be about 2 general kinds of workers you will deal with, those who are so cynical, clueless or selfish that they will never listen and will always undermine the elader's authority, and those peopel need the stick, not the carrot, watch them, they will eventually quit, but till then, you have to prevent them from chasing off good customers and causing too much shrink. the second kind are people who geneuinely want to earn their dollar, and the leader that diff mentioned works really well with these types, becasue if they work hard because they actually want to "help" their leader, then they will do some very good things in terms of productivity, customer service, and overall work.Quote:
