I do believe that gay couples should have the same rights as hetero couples. I don't that it matters if they get to call themselves "married" or not.

I care that this issue is becoming a major battleground in an election year when there are so many issues I do care about at stake. I'm tired of the media covering the hell out of it. I'm concerned the President will use this as a smokescreen and win another term.

And I certainly care whether the Constitution - the document our government and our rights is founded upon - is amended to include a definition that at best is unnecessary and at worst is discriminatory.

I care too. Im not happy about this situation at all, but what I see happening here is that both sides are going to extremes to make sure they get their way (Prince Planet pointed to the lameness of the original decision in Mass. in the original thread which led to the SF stuff, and this amendment junk is really extreme too). It's an ugly ugly situation and it just erupted what, 2 months ago? We need to step back from this for a while and assess it rationally, but gays are NOT going to let that happen.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. I had a teacher that was a huge Orwell fan. Borderline obsessive, but the fellow also hated "leftists" and whatnot quite a bit, and he'd go on tirades about it. Edit: Yes I know the typical cliffnotes blah blah says the book was about communism. But for the most part it teaches a mutual lesson against each.

True...but gays aren't the ones calling for a constitutional amendment here.

Unless you're calling President Bush gay. I do it all the time.

Like I said, there are plenty of ways states can deal with this issue without turning it into Bibleblasters vs. Assblasters Constitutional Showdown.

I think we can agree that there are many more important issues for us to disgree on this election year.

From what Ive seen:
01. Decision in Massachusetts.
02. Bush says he does not support gay marriages. First mention of amendment.
03. San Francisco thing explodes 2 weeks ago.
04. Bush and friends get more serious on constitutional amendment.

See what I mean? it's an escalating situation, an arms race if you will. And I dont wanna see what #05 is. We need to step back from this and focus on things that really need to be worked out. This is all crap.

Wrong, if you look at the animal population, they have a small percentage of gays as well (that reads real funny..anyhow), so one way or another this is an anamoly of nature, and nature is after all the work of/or God depending on your beliefs, and if your a Christian you follow the words of Christ, he never really mentioned homosexuality.

I have no problem with gays getting married, but oddly enough disagree with them raising kids, I dont think thats cool.

Outlawing gay marriage via an amendment to the consitituation is EXACTLY what the "horribly evil Taliban that the USA obliterated" would do.

Anyways, as a Torontonian, I say let gay people get married. It happened in our city last year, and society hasn't fallen apart. I think our city is better off now.
